It should be okay. I have a male and female sharing and have had mixed genders share my aviary without many issues. As long as there is no nesting box or any other nook or cranny to lay in, it is unlikely your birds will mate, and even if they do, if there is nowhere to lay, the hen probably won't lay.

In terms of colour mutation, it can develop and change over time. I wouldn't place too much emphasis on it.
