Re: New to Quaker parrots

I can only echo what others have said so far, please do not adopt a baby bird until it is capable of eating solid adult food and has been doing so for a minimum of two weeks. No ethical or responsible breeder should be selling you an unweaned baby in the first place. Do not believe anyone who tries to tell you that finishing off hand-feeding is easy or that it will enhance the bond between you and your baby bird. Weaning is a very precarious time in a young bird’s life and if you get one thing wrong you can easily end up with a dead baby. But you don’t have to take my word for it, just have a browse through our bereavement pages for all the tales of loss and remorse.

We look forward to sharing in your journey with your new addition when the time is right!
