Rehoming: Sulfur-Crested Cockatoo

I am looking to rehome a Sulfur-Crested Cockatoo, I run a dog rescue and unfortunately the owner passed away and the bird was going to be given away by the Spouse, so I took it. I have had it for approx. 7 months. I had a sulfur-crusted in the past that passed away 2 years ago, that was rescued from a hoarder.

Her name is Rosie, she's 18, she was hand raised by the 1-owner however I feel she was slightly mistreated as she can be slightly aggressive towards certain people. I also feel she was mistreated because she does not like screaming or raised voices of any kind, she will become vocal and responds (but not full squawking). She basically talks loud enough to show her displeasure. She can be a nice bird, she seems to like Men more which is puzzling because she was owned by 2 women her entire life.

In the short time we've had her, we've gotten her to behave better, I feel a true bird enthusiasts would be most beneficial towards her. I am by no means a bird-person, my focus is on dog rescue. I am doing the best I can with the limited knowledge that I have.

She is fine with dogs and cats as she has lived with many her entire life. She does not seem bothered by young children as I have 2 5-year girls running around constantly.

I can pick her up without issues but my mother in law can not touch her but can feed her from her hand. I do not know if she resembles someone who was not nice to her. She will eat food out of your hands, I believe she just needs someone who has the time to work with her as she could be a great bird. She is quiet, will talk back to you, no cuss words. I honestly feel that a true bird enthusiasts would give her the attention she needs to overcome her fear. She is a good bird, i don't want to make it sound like she's not, but she is not the type of bird that will cuddle in your chest (yet). She does have the potential to be that bird. Her frustration towards people seems to come out of fear. She loves to be on top of her cage, she is let out every night when my girls go to bed and she sits on top of her cage and plays with tennis balls, kongs, and ropes. I believe that she would benefit from being perched most of the day but because of dog rescue lifestyle she can not be out as much as she should. She is allowed off her cage however she will tend to chew anything within reach.

She is not clipped, she will not fly but will only do so if she is startled. I have only seen her fly one time (it was because of a balloon).

She has not been DNA-Sexed.

I was originally going to keep the bird for a week or 2 to find a new home, however she is quite endearing and i tried to make it work. She has an excellent home here, but i feel she deserves and can have a much better home with an experienced, knowledgeable owner.

Awww! She's a real beauty, I hope she finds the perfect home!

Please be very cautious about her next family. People have numerous misconceptions about these big beautiful birds, she deserves a family who understands Toos.

Oh dear - I love that look. I'm in love. I've been thinking about getting a friend for my sulfur-crested cockatoo. He needs something/someone besides me.
I'm sorry you are so far away.
Do you know how much she weighs?

Well that is one of the sweetest faces I've ever seen! I hope one of the regulars adopt just so I can get some more picture fixes of that precious face.

Thank you very much for the comments, I'm hoping she goes to a regular that is local (within driving distance) as I would do a home visit to see her new home. I WILL NOT SHIP!!

Why not consider shipping? It's really not that bad. I've had 3 birds shipped to me and none were worse for wear. Several hours of travel is worth it as far as I'm concerned. Gives you more opportunities for finding his forever home.
