Perry: Standard green and yellow budgie.
Peep: Blue and white budgie.
Harvey: Hahn's Macaw
Currently in Maryland.
The owner died in June. The family of the owner never wanted the birds and are looking for someone to take them, free of charge.

The claim is that they are unfriendly, but I have a feeling that part of this is a symptom of the lack of care they have received recently. Their cage is getting a little gross in some places at this point.

If anyone is willing to take in the 2 quakers, please let me know in this thread. They will probably need a bit of work to re-socialize.

I could probably take them short term to help find them a more appropriate home if necessary, although not preferable.

If worst comes to worse, I could bring them to a shelter.

I have no experience with those kinds of places though, so I don't really know much about what to look for. A quick google search shows there are several not terribly far away.

Most shelters aren't experienced with exotics.
If that's what you plan to do I would look in to bird rescues etc.

Do you still have these Quakers, I'm a huge Quaker enthusiasts myself and I have my 1 year Quaker named Paulie, he is a fantastic bird. The only problem that I see is that these 2 birds would need to be shipped but only because I live in NH.. I could certainly promise you that they would be going to the best and loving forever home who has plenty of time to get them back to being friendly and liveable again.

Thanks for your time,
Jake

Jake, I doubt the Quakers are still available. Additionally, even IF they were still up for adoption, I truly doubt they would be shipped to a stranger, if you know what I mean. :)

We're all EXTREMELY passionate about our birds here - and other people's birds. We also tell everyone rehoming a bird to take every precaution necessary to ensure their bird finds the very best (new) home possible.

I totally understand, however if he couldn't find any experienced bird lovers in MD then I would love to take them in and provide them the time & care they will need to get back to being hand tamed & loveable again

Thanks for your interest Birdlover69. I'm sure some arrangement could have been made to ensure a good fit, if the birds were still available through here.

The previous owner's family managed to make arrangements with a local parrot rescue, so that is where they ended up. I was more of a sidelines party on this, so I'm not sure of the exact details. You may be able to find them through searches if you are still interested, and they may be able to handle the distance/shipping problem.
