I was contacted by my friend who runs a dog rescue, she was given a 10 year old B&G, she's had her for 2 years but cannot care for her to the level that's needed. She reached out to me because I have a B&G, but I cannot take on another bird and mine is very well cared for and I don't want to create any discord. I'm not on here much but read through some of the posts. Is there a listing that's available of REPUTABLE rehoming or bird sanctuaries I could refer her too? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! And you can see my Kiwi on youtube at "bocas michael" if you're interested

WOW she is pretty. YOU are doing the right thing checking into reputable homes. So many just sell and the bird suffers in the end.

Good luck . Hope someone comes along soon with advice

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Where is this bird exactly? What City and State?

Your post says Tennessee, and your location says Maryland.

Ruffled Feathers is who I'd contact in Maryland. (Yvonne England.)

She's in Knoxville, and I do live in Virginia..my friend who contacted me lives in Knoxville, I offered to help get the word out since I couldn't take her. Thanks for pointing that out, certainly don't want to appear misleading. Thanks for those links as well, I will check them out.-Michael

The one in Tennessee looks good, I'm going to reach out. I would assume if there was anything shady they would not be able to sustain their business for long. Thanks again.

Where in Virginia are you located and where in Kentucky is the bird? I know you can't PM me so I will keep this short. I don't need another bird but I have a friend who has me looking for a blue and gold for her. I am located in Maryland near DC.

This is not a "flipper" operation. They actually give a damn!

Thanks very much for your comment Wendy. Would feel most comfortable with a legitimate rescue/sanctuary as the next home for her, especially one with an established reputation.

Can you please define what you mean by flipper?

I know you were asking Mark, but I'll be happy to give you my own definition: IMO a flipper is someone who 'rescues' birds (either gets them free or for a minimal price), and if things don't work out as foreseen those same animals (birds, dogs, cats, horses, etc) are then rehomed yet again.

I believe he's referring to someone taking a bird in, and then trying to resell it for profit only..like flipping a house.

Exactly.

That chick who got the greenwing from a home that didn't want her anymore, representing that she'd find it a good home, then turns around and sells it to a breeder... that she says "will breed it to death."

But he paid in cash under the table...

I live in Virginia as well and I am planning to add a blue & gold to my flock in the future. I would love to find out more info about your friend's bird if you're comfortable with that. I have four parrots currently and plenty parrot experience. This would be a fantastic home for him/her. I will post my email if you think this would be a good fit. Just let me know. :)

I came to this discussion kinda late, but I also say the Eastern Tennessee rescue is legit and cares very much. You will probably be speaking with Kim Hannah, who has done some heroic work with injured birds who need a soft place to land. If you visit, ask to meet the African Grey who came in with serious injuries. I only know him by pictures & videos, but he looks pretty healthy & cheeky these days, but he was pretty touch-and-go for a while.
