How on earth can someone stand by and watch any living being starve to death? It boggles my mind:(

It does happen far too often! Unspeakable and heartbreaking! I hope all the survivors find wonderful homes and caring people.

Is it possible that the owner died and no-one knew? Still, that's a crazy amount of birds... and I am in no way condoning the tragic conditions, but equally I do not wish to condemn without knowing all the details.
Those poor birds must be so traumatised.

I don't want to condemn, but whether they died or not, 117 birds is simply too many for one house. That's like a zoo! It sounds like it was a hoarding situation to me, the poor birds.

It could be a situation with like, 75 finches O_O. Doesn't sound like it though if you could smell the stench of dead animals from down the street, it takes a lot of decomp to travel that far.

I don't personally necessarily see any problem in keeping that many birds so long as they aren't all highly human companionized birds. It can be easier to take care of 20 birds that want nothing to do with a person and are happy that way than it can be to take care of one needy loving parrot.

Of course, that still directly ties in to being able to *properly* care for them, and having adequate space for them.

Though really if you think about it, it's even more sad. If you consider that they were able to rescue 117 birds, and their comment that "many of the birds were dead", depending on their definition of "many" it could have been upwards of 200 birds in the house to begin with. granted I'm just tossing a number, but it really is a shame that it ever happened.

Honestly, I can't imagine it. Huge props to the rescue though, I hope most of those 117 are able to be saved and that the death toll doesn't keep rising.

Thanks for sharing FLboy

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Absolutely disgusting, the depths of depravity are really stunning. There has got to be something beyond simple hoarding in this twisted story.

I agree... but I will condemn, that many birds in one house is unthinkable. You would have to have a commercial air filter to keep the conditions breathable for the birds and humans. Very disturbing!

What a heart wrenching story. It makes you wonder what does one do with 117 birds? Thank God they have been rescued and I pray they all find good homes...

None. My wife has one too many. Kidding!
If such a thing can be done I will tell the Mrs. not to look. I looked for her. Happy to spare her. Horrible. But still, people who care NEED to look.
