Cockatiel, named Buster.
Hi there! I'm looking to add another bird to my family. Currently own a 3 year old Cockatiel named Buster. He's a loving and spicy boy, as Tiels tend to be.

I have done extensive research on and met with multiple African Grey's in my area so I'm learning to be more familiar with the bird. I work during the day and so does my wife, but her hours are more varied and sparse than mine and currently the Tiel gets, at minimum, 5 hours of interaction daily. Usually 6 to 7 hours. Weekends it's typically an all day thing. We don't have kids are both musicians so music is constantly played. The Tiel loves it.

If you can't take care of your bird and want him or her to have a lifelong home, we will gladly give the care and attention deserved. Thanks so much!

Located in Cincinnati.

Welcome to Parrot Forums!

Although, you have indicated you have been activity researching African Grey's. It would be worth your time (if you have not already done so) to read the Threads at the top of the African Grey Forum and several pages into that Forum.

This group of Old World Parrots are very bright and require a high level of interaction. This would mean that your current Tiel may /will miss out on that activity as everyone is involved with the new Parrot. Also, even if the activity is equally provided, it may not be enough for the Tiel to maintain a relationship with both of you and become a single person Parrot. This will also be true with the African Grey. So, as long as this is know by everyone up front and that the lucky person that cleans up after the now two Parrots are happy with that reality, have fun!

Oh yaaa, are you set-up to be able to separate these two if they do not get along with each other?

Also, visit your locate regional Rescues in your three state area. Know in advance, if a Rescue group is structured to only place Parrots in their State.

Thanks! We would easily be able to separate the two and I'm willing to deal with the possibility that the bird may bond with only one of us, though the Tiel is pretty in love with both me and my wife. Thanks so much for the helpful advice!

FYI: Consider letting the Parrot make the choice! It will greatly speed the bonding process and you will quickly find they are much better at it then we are!
