Rehoming a GCC

I live in upper WV have a GCC that needs rehomed. I got her as she is only about 4 months old and I am ashamed as I have to rehome her and I have not had her that long at all. I feel like I can't not fully be with her as I planned. I wish I could as I love all birds and wanted one forever but I just have my heart broken and get all sad when I realize that my plan fell through as I didn't think it would. I do have a cage with some perches, play top, 5 stainless steel food bows, a comfy perch, spiral perch with a bell on the end(She loves to sleep at the top of that one.), and a chew toy as well. The cage I would like to get some money out of but I just want a good home for Luna so I wont be so heart broken and she can have a better home.

I have a 4 month old GCC that I need to go to a new home. I thought I could take care of a bird as I planned and planned and put the time and money in but I don't think I can at all. I don't thinks she will be happy here with me and want to find someone more suited for this as I am not that home and I get busy a lot here lately and it looks like it will stay that way. So it comes with great pain and shame to do this... I do live in upper WV in Marion county. I can make a drive depending on location.

Ryan calm down, you have three posts going right now. We appreciate you want the best for the bird but 1) I think you can make your schedule work 2) relax a bit, give people time to respond to you, this is a message board not a live chatroom.

I can tell you want the best for your bird....thats why I kinda sorta think you might still be the best home for it....calm down and relax. Play with your bird right now...spend time with it. Your conure can change it's schedule to match yours, mine has.

Just breathe.....and enjoy your gcc, everything always tends to sort itself out no matter how much you worry about it...trust me I'm old, like 40 and stuff.

I think you should give your GCC and yourself a second chance. I have 3 conures, I have a sun, pineapple sided conure, and yellow sided conure. These three have adapted to my schedule. If I am super busy and don’t have time for them that day, I make sure to make up for it with treats, making my own foraging toys now, and cuddles and attention as soon as possible.

You care a lot for your conure. I thought of finding a home for my babies too but I love them and I can’t bare being away from them. If you still want to find your baby a home, then I think you should wait for someone who is closer to your hometown or do what you must. I live in California, if I lived closer I would totally take your baby in because I love conures, they are my favorite type of bird, but I think you might be the best home for your baby.

Sir, you seem to be expressing that you have suffered a great loss. I' sorry for your loss. Perhaps, instead of seeing your lovely bird as a burden, you might alter your perspective and see her/him as a joy.

Ryan. If you get in a bind let me know. I live in NY but I will gladly come get him. My daughter is going to college at Fairmont State in WV. I would love a visit and could come to you at the same time. Just let me know, there is no need for undue stress on you or the Conure.

Re: Rehoming a GCC

I live in Virginia, have you decided to keep the GCC? Or are you still looking for someone to adopt? Do you have any pictures? It has been a few months since the original post..... how is its temperament?

KThom, I'm sure your intentions are good, however it doesn't look good when you join a forum and immediately start looking for birds in need of new homes as your first posts.

Please introduce yourself, stick around, talk with other members. :) Let us know who you share your life with and include pictures! We love pictures here! ;)

I think everyone can offer a lot of support here to work through issues if keeping parrots. But I think we should be very careful if guilting people into keeping a parrot they weren't prepared for. Some people are just not cut out to keep parrots, they made a mistake, and rehoming might be the very best thing.....so many parrots are neglected, just left in a cage, or people think they will never bond with a new person. Many people get into parrots with out properly understanding what they have gotten into, if they've come to the conclusion that they can't provide the time and care, it really is best to rehome.

If you are still considering rehoming your GCC I have been looking for one to adopt. I currently have two budgies and a cockatiel and would love to have a conure! I have plenty of time on my hands to give one more bird the attention it deserves.
