Re-homing Double Yellow Head Parrot

Sponsored Links
I need a better life for this bird that I do dearly love. She deserves more then I'm able to give.
So the scoop on my bird MoMo is her name and she is older. I got her 20 years ago and she was 40 then, so I was told. I'm happy to get a vet check her health. She talks but not like a Gray and yells. She will allow you to pet her as she gets to know you but she acts like she will bite you if you try to pick her up. I was told the previous owner could pick her up but I was so young when I got her, it scared me. Unfortunately I didn't have the knowledge to own a bird like this. I have her cage open almost everyday and she will get on top and do her thing but she doesn't leave the cage.
I want someone wonderful who has the time to make her life wonderful and give her the attention she deserves. Teach her things and show her lots of love.
I just don't have the time or knowledge unfortunately.

Where are you? An older parrot is a good companion for older parronts ... there's a good chance they can stay the rest of their lives with one person.

Re: Re-homing Double Yellow Head Parrot

I have long worked with older Amazons that needed new homes. The vast majority have been very ill and near all abuse. So, I can say that with a little effort and a few changes, you will be surprised just how possible it is for this Amazon to once again, become the love of your life.

If you are at least a little bit interested in that possibility, there are members here that will be happy to provide a bit of guidance and support, which just may lead to you and your Amazon, first recalling, and then rejoicing in the memories of why you came together in the first place.

20 years is a very long time and life has a way of allowing us to forget just how much we mean to each other. You will be surprised just how little time and effort is needed to once again become the center of each others lives.

If that is an interest, let us know.

Re: Re-homing Double Yellow Head Parrot

Where are you located? I may be interested. I have had 2 Blue-Fronted Amazons in the past: both were rescues, one was a senior and the other came with significant behavior issues. I am hesitant to take another senior bird as it shattered my heart to pieces when I lost my Crayon girl. But she was an amazing bird and seniors can be fantastic and ultimately completely worth the extra care they may need. I am in the Greater Washington DC area and absolutely would post updates on her if she ended up coming here.

Do you mean give me the knowledge to work with her? Hold her? The yelling with young babies is a problem for me though.

Re: Re-homing Double Yellow Head Parrot

Hmm. If transportation cannot be arranged but you are not in a rush to rehome her, I may be able to come to you in a few months. The area we are looking at to build the(and of course assuming that you do decide you want to rehome her) farm is in Kentucky, not too far from there.

Sent from phone and I can already tell this one was not written well, but I am being climbed on by two small parrots atm so cannot edit from phone also lol

So, in the next five years the babies with not be yelling with the Amazon and life will have moved onto yet another stage! The good news is the Human Babies grow-up and will leave on their own. At that point, the house will be much emptier. Your Amazon may just fill that emptiness.

Your choice is to make adjustments as life changes or re-home! I'm only offering. If you're not interested. That's your choice. That all said, there are members that as babies where watched-over by Amazons and have their own today.

Re: Re-homing Double Yellow Head Parrot

Are you talking about the parrot screaming? That behavior can be reduced or eliminated with time and work too.
