I'm interested in adopting or purchasing a parrot from someone who is looking to rehome. I have found a rescue in Pittsburgh PA but I believe they only do adoptions within an hour of the rescue :( I live about 2 hours away. If anyone here has any info on other rescues in PA I would love to know. OR if anyone knows of anyone in PA looking to rehome a bird. I'm willing to travel or meet someone under the right circumstances. Thanks everyone!

Hello!

Hello everyone! If anyone knows of any rescues in PA besides PEARL I would love some info. Unfortunately they only adopt within a 1 hour distance. I live about 2 hours away. We're looking to adopt a parrot (rather than shop) but so far have been unable to find a rescue. We would also be interested in assisting in a rehome so if you know anyone in or around PA who is looking to rehome a bird please let me know! Thank you!

Re: Hello!

Ruffeled Feathers is located in Hanover PA.

Ruffled Feathers Parrot Sanctuary Exotic Bird Rescue | Home

Kelly and I visited there, donated some food, toys and some time to put a few toys together. We spent some time with the residents there and hopefully we made them as happy as we were.

Thanks
Kelly, Karl, and Arika

Another member Don, also donates some of his time there.

Consider confirming that they have a hard and fast 'rule' regarding the one hour drive time. 'IF' you have the background with the care of Parrot's, they may make an exception. Or, if you volunteer for a number of hours over a number of months and become a known individual to them. Rules crossing State Lines are always hard and fast. Everything else is up for review based on provided facts.

FYI: I'm a strong believer in allow the Parrot to choose it's new owner. That said, you're not stating a specific species and thereby being open to adopting any species of Parrots places concerns regarding your likely knowledge. This based on the vast differences between the full breath of Parrots.

I have a background with smaller birds and parrots. I was mostly looking for some general info and leads which is why I didn't name a specific species.

From little to big - currently 6 Linnies; 2 Budgies; 1 BHP; 2 CAGs; 2 Zons; 1 GWM. Formerly in the flock: 1 LSC2 [fostered/rehomed] RIP: 1 budgie 1 WCP & 1 sweet Pan Am
If you could be a little more specific about your location, I might be able to help - Pennsylvania's a big state for travel purposes so if you could narrow the area, I might know of something.

Crimson bellied conures
I have a crimson bellied conure who needs a rehome. My friends and I took him in and have been fostering him and teaching how to be a good little bird. Shockingly he does say a few phrases and words but not often. I can meet since I'm here in PA. I don't have a car but if you want him we can work something out. We don't know his age and are tracking down who the breeder was to find out more about him. He is a healthy sweet little dear that we are looking for the right person for. Maybe it's you? He does have a rehoming fee.

Where in PA do you live? I work at an Avian/Reptile rescue, but we too have a 2-hour limit on drive-time, though I've been trying to work on that, as we have passed on some of what would have been great homes for birds because of the drive-time limit. I personally think it's a ridiculous rule, the only reason most rescues have this rule is because they we do home-checks and don't want to have to drive over 1 to 2 hours to do so. That to me is just selfish on the part of the rescue, mine included.

I'm in State College, and there is also an avian rescue in Williamsport, PA, as well as a few other multi-animal rescues in the central PA area that always have parrots. It just depends on where you live and what type of bird you are looking to adopt.
