Hello all,
i've been in the process of looking for a rescue or re-home bird and I'm still on that search and was wondering if anybody here from Australia can help me. I'm willing to travel and to pay the adoption fee, I'm looking for a alexandrine or a conure.

Thanks all.

Can I ask you what led you to those two birds specifically? You are talking about EXTREMELY different animals.

Yes I'm very aware that the alex and conure are two very different birds, my first conure was a pet shop brought parrot and honestly he was a pain in my a** but i still loved him, he eventually trusted me and the bond i had with him was amazing, but unfortunately he passed. The alex i have always wanted i think they are beautiful birds, and i would put in the time and effort to get one to the point where it can trust me.

Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.

I am familiar with Alexandrines; don't know much about Conures; know that they are different. But how are they "EXTREMELY" different. I suppose the Non- Pyrrhura conures are probably 10 times louder. Is there anything else?

Well, Alexandrines are not conures, they are asiatic parrots. I’ll attach here my article on how ringnecks are different, and the things in it with the partial exception of the finger phobia hold true for Alexes as well. When it comes to temperament they are on opposite ends of the spectrum. As a ringneck breeder I would never let one of my babies go home with someone who was considering a conure because I know they wouldn’t be happy with a ringneck.

Your article was very helpful, thank you. I'm more leaning towards the side of an alex now, just about finding the right one.

Also what would you recommend for cage sizes?

For an Alex, go with a macaw cage.
