So guys, I thought I would post this here just on the off-chance that someone with large parrot experience or Cockatoo experience might have room in their family and their heart for a Goffin in great-need. I was made aware of this guy through a notification made to the Rescue I volunteer at of a Craigslist ad...

Basically a family who has had this Goffin for 3 years I believe, a male Goffin who has had 4 homes (I believe he's a young teenager, around 14) has been trying to re-home him for the past couple of months, as the mother of the family, who is the Goffin's caretaker and "person", is quite sick and can no longer care for the bird. So her kids have been trying to find this Goffin a good home...Unfortunately they re-homed him literally yesterday to a family that I know nothing about, but it doesn't sound like they had any parrot experience at all, let alone Cockatoo experience, and the poor guy was screaming/crying when they got him home, and this upset their cat, so they brought him back this morning. They had him less than 24 hours, so basically they only served to traumatize this poor guy even more than he already is, as he's been locked inside his cage 24/7 for the past couple of weeks due to the mother not being able to interact with him, and no one else is around or willing to do so...

From what I was told this Goffin is the sweetest little guy in the world, he steps-up for anyone, cuddles for anyone, loves scratches, etc. No biting behavior at all. The only issue of course is this new screaming problem, which should be expected from a 'Too in this situation, but only expected by experienced parrot people, which most people contacting them are not...

They don't want to put him in the Rescue, although that would be much, much, much better for him than having him go to a totally unexperienced home and to probably only be sold or re-homed again soon. That's what is going to happen to this little guy, he's going to be flipped, and the family doesn't want that at all, this is breaking their hearts, but they don't know what else to do...So I told them I would do anything I could to help them out...

If anyone is interested, or you know a parront that may be interested, just PM me, and I can give you their information...

I appreciate your response...But if you can't take him in I understand, you've got a lot on your hands already, lol...I spoke to this women's daughter last night, and she's really having a tough time with this right now. She's been staying at her mother's house all day long, and has been having him out all day long with her, and she said that this is making this all the more difficult because he's such a sweetheart with her all day...It's not the bird's fault, and this wasn't at all what they intended to have happen, obviously. They were the best home this bird had ever had, and then her mother got extremely ill...

I completely understand itā€™s a hard decision for sure! He sounds like such a sweetheart . I had written that I could probably take him and some how my lovely auto type said couldnā€™t instead. lol. If they still need help , I could prob keep him here with me permanently and give them updates on how he does. I have references if needed as well.

I'd be able to help but I'm waaaay far away in Wyoming. I even have a huge empty cage to fill. Road trip? I'll be in Tennessee next week that's a lot closer but still quite a distance.

My heart is breaking for him! This is sort of how Kaya came into our lives. Her owner died, she cried for days, prolapsed her vent, and we took her. Here's my U2. Wonder how he'd do with her?

My hubby is leaving tomorrow for Harrisburg as he will be working there for next two wks. I can come pick him up if needed any time. I hate to see him placed in a home he might not be at permanently. I have my African grey sheā€™s 15 & my umbrella is 4 1/2. Any parrots coming to my home remains with me. I feel so bad for those rehomed time after time. Iā€™m a stay at home mom so my birds are hardly caged. Please keep me in mind and let us know the outcome for him? Thanks and god bless!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I wish I were closer, would be tempted to add a sixth Goffin! I have free air travel privileges, but my airline specifically disallows cockatoos from traveling in the cabin. Really don't like placing them in cargo, especially a highly stressed bird.

Hope somebody is able to take him!

I can as soon as someone lets me know to. I am under three hours away and my hubby is there now if owners want to meet at the hotel he is currently at while working away.

Just to let everyone know, I too have contacted the daughter (after April contacted me), who I had literally just spoken to prior to posting this ad, and she is no longer returning my messages either...She/they had posted an ad on every local Craigslist within a good 100 mile radius, including State College, Altoona, Williamsport, etc., which is how it came to our attention at the Rescue in the first place...

I don't know what's going on here, I had spoken to the daughter after she initially posted the ad that he needed a home (about 2 and a half weeks ago), and then she/they posted a second ad all over Craigslist stating that they had re-homed him but they brought him back less than 24 hours later, that was last week. The I spoke to her again, at length, and now she's gone off-the-radar again...

My feeling here is that she just re-homed him yet again to the first person who told her they'd take him. I'm now convinced that's what happened the first time, and probably again, even though I was told by the daughter that they went through a lengthy process of checking people out, and had met several different people (which made no sense to me based on the short amount of time that had passed between her posting the ad and re-homing him the first time)...I hope that I'm wrong, but I don't think so...

I'll update this if I hear from them, as I'm going to email them again...I feel so horribly for this poor guy, I'm going to do everything I can to find out where he is and how he is doing...

I forgot to update this, and honestly I was so jacked about the outcome that I was trying to forget about it...The reason that the owner's daughter suddenly cut-off all communication with me and everyone else that was trying to inquire about adopting their Goffin is because they did exactly the same thing with her that they did the first time with the first "buyer" that had her less than 24 hours and then brought her back...They didn't wait for me to get back to them, they didn't care if whomever got her had ever even owned a bird at all before, and they weren't "re-homing" her...Some time between when I had spoken to her and the next day, someone offered to pay her the $700 she was asking as a "re-homing fee", which I knew nothing about in the first place, and they just dumped the Goffin and ran with the money...I had no idea that this was that kind of situation: Elderly mother owns Goffin for a year and a half, loves the bird, but gets sick, so daughter immediately sells the bird to the highest bidder, so eagerly that she sold her twice in less than 72 hours.

You can't win them all I guess...but I can try.

Like I said, these people sold the bird to the first person willing to pay them $700. I had no idea it was this type of situation, as I was lied to by the owner's daughter. I didn't even know they were asking a fee. If I had known any of this, I would have gone and gotten her myself and brought her into my home. I feel quite guilty and awful about not doing that in the first place, but I had no idea it was a bird-flipping situation...They only had this poor bird for a little over a year themselves, again, I had no idea.

I can take him. My Citron died last spring. It broke our hearts completely. I have everything necessary for a long and happy life.
