I have a 3-year Meyers parrot that I unfortunately due to safety issues need to re-home. Recently about a year ago he has decided that he loves my husband who in in a wheelchair. I have tried everything to work with this, but its become a safety issue where now he ends up in the cage too often. He has gotten out since it takes my husband longer to get out the door as well as runs under his wheel chair. He is an awesome bird, talks loves to play and I don't want him to lose that. I did reach out to the Long Island Parrot Society. If anyone know of any rescues or would like to adopt him please let me know.

Parrots
Senegal Parrot named "Kane"; Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conure named "Bowie"; Blue Quaker Parrot named "Lita Ford"; Cockatiel named "Duff"; 8 American/English Budgie Hybrids; Ringneck Dove named "Dylan"
I'm assuming that you and your bird are then located somewhere on Long Island, correct? I'm sorry that you have to re-home your bird, it's very unselfish of you to do what is best for him...

Try L.I.Craigs List, but be prepared to do a lot of vetting od candidates.

Good morning,

Have you re-homed your Meyers yet? Iā€™m an experienced parrot owner and have a 13 year old CAG. I recently built a bird room and Iā€™m looking to expand my flock.

If you still have the Meyers. Let me know. Iā€™m in CT

I also tried to contact this person, I'm only 4 hours from her and already have a Senegal, so I thought I would help, but they never got back to me after multiple attempts, so I think they either found a home already or they changed their mind, or they just vaporized...

I'm so sorry to hear about the unfortunate situation, I haven't the slightest idea if you're still searching or not but I'm in Suffolk on Long Idland and have been searching for a starter bird. I've been doing research for about 5 months and looking everywhere I could for a bird that needed a good home. If we're close enough you could also feel free to come by and visit when I or my fiance are home, we both know how hard it can be to lose a connection with such a special animal. If you're still looking, please contact me. We could set up a face to face meeting to see how we get along

Hello Nachochick98 - this is quite an old thread now so chances are the situation with this particular bird has long since been resolved.

A friendly word of advice though, you may wish to refrain from using the phrase ā€œstarter birdā€, it has some rather unpleasant connotations and gives the impression that perhaps this bird will do until something bigger, brighter and more exciting comes along. I donā€™t think this is what you had in mind when you wrote it, but itā€™s a phrase that gives a lot of our members the screaming heebie jeebies when we see it, so itā€™s best avoided here please!
