I am 70 now and been studying parrots. There are only 5 species that aren't dander dusty and the Eclectus male is my choice of them. I am retired and on a limited income so I can't afford to buy such an expensive bird; but I can afford to feed and accommodate one and have the time to give it. "IF", someone wanted to rehome an older bird and see that it prospered and arrange for it in case of my own death. Positive replies should be sent through a Moderator. Tnx jh

FlBoy is the most correct, I think, sort of. We do the getting for our pets, of anything for them; so which is the owner? Like most of you, I am usually the best trained of me and my pet. jh

For once, I think I might be able to share some information. Some of you might know that I recently took in a rehomed Eclectus, so I can share my spending on him. This post is not supposed to be what you must spend upon getting a bird. It is just what I valued and choosed to spend.

This is just for reference.

My bird came with his cage/perch/carrier/junk food (seeds) for $1000
I bought TOP pellets for $35 ish
I bought chop material for $25 ish
Bird toys $45 ish for 5
Bird stuff on amazon $120 ish
RabbitAir purifier $630 ish
Oops! Toys arriving late...I need it now! off to Petco spent $50
Airline approved carrier $300 ish

I’m taking my boy to vet tomorrow. I expect a couple hundred dollars because I will be asking for blood works.
We are hoping to get more perches, harness, and other misc. things, so more will come later.

Again, this is by no means “the way” to keep a parrot. You can DIY a lot of the things, but we both work full time, so we take the convenient route. Just want to supply some data for your thoughts.

The vet, food, toys and perches will easily exceed the initial cost of the bird within about a year. Faster if you count the cage.
Not saying you can't do this still, but they are very expensive.
When I got mine, my mom said "You will get so attached to that d*mn bird that you will pay whatever it takes to keep it healthy"...She was right, and it is not easy.
