1oldparroter I had moderator send you a message with my contact information. I know you have wanted a parrot for a long time and I want to give you first preference.

I took in 3 rescues. The owner passed and her husband could not take care of them. He was in desperate need of money for medical and auto repairs and I gave him $600. They were in poor shape from an all seed diet but after a month of Higgins, Pellets and fresh fruit and vegetables, they all have nice feather glow and very active. I am now looking at rehoming two of the parrots. Cage and accessories come with the bird and any donation to help offset the cost would be appreciated.

Pinochio is an Timneh Grey that has been in his cage his entire life. When I first got him, he was very agressive and would try to bite when I fed him. He is now calm and you can put your hands in the cage and play with his beak. I have also got him to step up occasionally but he is really nervous until he sits for a few minutes while you talk to him.

Smitty has never been handled and was also aggressive. I was told Smitty was a male but I am pretty sure Smitty is female. My DYH is alpha male and does not like any male birds. He is very much love struck when he sees Smitty -- eyes pinning, tail fanning and all kinds of sounds I never heard him make before. Smitty does not step up yet but she no longer bites and she loves head scratches.

2 umbrella Cockatoos One male named Cooper and female named Baby 1 Little Corella male named Frankie and have 5 Cockatiels three named Male named Pepper, Fiesco for the female and female named Wylie.
Wow they look good and recovered nicely. I when through the same with Cooper my Male U2 and original owner assumed he was a female and didn't even had a name for him? I knew he was a Male due to size and behavior and had him DNA tested later on and he was indeed is a Male. Also found out he was still a juvenile a baby as had to hand raise him due to he regress and had had a lot of health problems do to he was raised by a unethical breeder. It took me months to recover him as he was in very bad shape. I found out a breeder was selling the birds to the previous owner for cheap to move birds quicker months later and previous owner would buy them off breeder to flip them for profit at garage sale and social media sites. Which explains why he had several birds and reptiles and no name for them. Thankfully veterinarian and I reported him and stopped him from flipping in time when came across his ads later on and Cooper survived and is 100% now. She took the other birds from him. I kept Cooper and now a great companion as he goes everywhere with me.

Yes, I know what you mean. I used to see it all the time on CL. I used to take in birds all the time and then rehome them but it is difficult now that I take care of a friend with cerebral palsy and also work in Norfolk and cross the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel everyday. I was trying to help the gentleman find homes for these but then he got desperate for money and was going to sell them to someone for $100 that never had birds before. They guy showed up when I was picking up the birds and was mad because he had already had buyers for the birds. Flippers are worse kind of people.

I want to rehome these before I get too attached to them. I love parrots more than people and I already have 5 in my flock. I took them in to get them healthy and homes and ended up getting attached to them. They are all jealous of each other and make a fuss when I pick another bird. I took in a DYH amazon and Macaw a few years back when a friend of mine passed away. I rehomed the Macaw but the Amazon was really aggressive and bad medical condition. I had to run back and forth to the vet with two surgeries and now he will step up for anyone. Taylor (DYH) really took a liking to me so I did not want to traumatize him and put him in another home.

IN RE texsize: She is a noisy little bird but she is so sweet. Not stepping up yet because she was never handled but she loves her scratches. I let her out for exercise but I have to be careful because she can fly -- just can't navigate very well and runs into things.

Wish you was closer to Virginia too. You sound like you love your birds like I do.

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Hi Krayman! My band plays in the Hampton Blackbeard Festival every year ( well not this year, everything got cancelled). If any of your parrots are harness trained, be sure to stop by next year and say Hi, We are The Brigands. I will probably have Salty with me next year, he is a real ham when he is on stage with me.

I will keep an eye out for the Festival. Haven't harness trained them. My African Grey, Clyde, used to go places with me. He stays on my shoulder and has never tried to fly when he is on me. I looked at your pics of Salty.

Keebler25, I am waiting on a response from 1oldparroter. I had a moderator send him a msg for me. The Orange Wing Amazon has not been taught to step up yet. She loves head scratches and is not cage aggressive at all but will get real noisy if you ignore her. I have to set her cage beside me when I am home or she starts yelling at me until I go over and talk to her and scratch her head and neck.

PrimorandMoxi thanks for the complements on my BFA and RLA. Juju, the BFA was a rescue that I was going to rehome but she is so sweet I could not give her up. I got her off CL from a lady who was having serious medical issues and wanted to find her a good home. She said many people called but she did not feel comfortable letting Juju go until I called and she met me. Lucky for me and for Juju. I posted more pictures in my album.

I also have Chico, a RLA, one of the three that I just rescued in August, that I am going to rehome. He was not handled but learned how to step up in just a few days. He prefers that you walk up to the cage and let him climb on your shoulder. He loves to just set on my shoulder and at times will play with hair and ears. He is healthy now that I have him on a good diet. He is over 40 and was on a seed diet his whole life.

wrench13 I haven't heard from 1oldparroter and he hasn't been online for quite a while. Looking at his posts, I know he wanted a parrot for a long time so I was hoping he would contact me before I find homes for these rescues.

Thanks krayman, Flboy and terry57; I sorry I haven't been logged in lately. Have been playing with a new computer and monitor (it's not a windows system either) and just checked in on it.
Yes krayman, I am interested and sent you a pm. jh

Wow! Good luck! Get a nice big cage and be patient-- I appreciate your patience already (oneoldparroter). DO try to save a little extra though, because when these guys need a vet, they need one quickly.

I am excited for you and I hope you take it slow with your new friend (or temporary "frenemy" lol)

I tried to get Pinnochio to go in a bigger cage but he prefers the one he has been in his whole life. Not the biggest but decent size (21 x 21 x 53). I let him out to roam as I let all of my flock out daily to exercise and destroy the room :) He will probably eventually go into a bigger cage but until he gets used to new person and environment, keeping his home he is used to is less stress on the bird.

I am going to give 1oldparroter the cage, some toys and his foraging ball and stainless mirror. He also has a swing and uses it quite a bit.

Agreed

It makes it easy on them stress wise.

Yay from me too. At first I had "NO" idea how expensive birds are now days. Its something I should have researched, so to still be offered such a bird is astounding in itself. Now I must make arrangements for someone to replace me (in case my calendar, expires) I want to Thank those of you who stood up for me too. Although there are a lot of flipper type's around and I often felt pointed at, it took awhile to realize, I wasn't being singled out; every time. Now all I need to do, is clean this room (i stopped) and go get my new buddy. jh
