Just Alex, his feathers are so bad. Hope all those feathers are gone this moult. Some of his feathers are very nice and shiny and some are dull. When I got him ALL of his feathers were dull and greyish.

Yuki Left - Alex Right (You can see his black feathers for his ring is starting to come in).

Thank you :)
They are very cute together but VERY destructive :p
They will destroy/break apart any toy that they can find. Alex has taken a few large chucks out of our photo frames, dining table kitchen wall and much more. He has been to the vet a few times. I do get a bit worried. I dont wan't him to ingest something he shouldn't. He has broken my curtains. He broke the railings. They destroy their perches so easily. No matter what I give them. Their toys get broken often and usually are replaced. :p

Nice looking birds! It is interesting to see how big they look sitting on your hand. Much stockier than IRNs.

Thank you :)
Yes they are much stockier than IRN's.
I could probably get a pic of Kiko and Alex together if you want to see the size difference. :)

Just Kikorangi

Everytime I picked up one of my fids. The other would come up to me and would want to be picked up. It was very cute. All four of them are pretty heavy. :p

Loving your photos, Ash! I am impatiently waiting for my Alexandrine baby boy, who should be arriving in our family toward the end of October, all going to plan, so I'm loving your Alexandrine pics especially. Such gorgeous birds!

I'm wondering if you do the whole 'keep below your eye level' thing with your Alexes? I read so many differing opinions on it - some say you must for the first three years or they become aggressive, others say it an outdated practice that makes no difference. Just wondering what your thoughts on it are? - obviously your birds a very friendly.

Thank you :D
I bet your really excited :p

And I don't do the whole below eye level. I'm pretty short and there "cage" is almost taller than me. Their "playgym" is taller than me. They have never shown aggression to me. Alex has shown some aggression to strangers and males. He was a rescue(was abused at his old home) so I can see why he wouldn't trust some people.

They really just stay on a tree stand which connects to their cage. They never go inside their cage, I just leave it their to support some branches. And I put their bowls of food on top of their cage. Ive heard a lot of alexandrines do get very aggressive about their cage. My alexandrines don't but the ones at my course did. They would let no one in their cage, not even to cage their food/water. Once they were out of their cage. They were fine and very friendly.

I just handle them daily and that seems to keep them friendly and happy. Ive never been bitten by my alexandrines.

I warn you about the mess they make :p
Very destructive. :p

Those are great photos of some beautiful birds! Thanks for the size comparison. I'm surprised the difference is so great. I have a blue IRN, but I've never really realized how much smaller they are than an Alex.

Thank you :D
I love seeing size comparisons. It gives me a better idea on the size of a fid. :D
Alex is a big boy. Yuki is smaller than Alex but she just likes to stretch out when I take pics. :p I think she wants to make herself look bigger. :p
And no problem. :D

Kiko is pretty small compared to my Alex's. Flynn my conure is pretty much the same size of Kiko. But Kiko has a much longer tail.

What a gorgeous flock! They are all beautiful, healthy looking birdies! And Alex and Yuki's feathers are so bright and lovely :)
Ash, would you mind taking a photo of your whole set up? Their cage and stand etc. I would like to see what you have going on :) It would be good to get some ideas on what I can do for my own little grumble bum!
P.S. I love it when you post pics of your fids! So, so darling!

Also, do the IRN's have a very different call to the Alex's?

Thanks :D

I will post pics of the cage set up once I can get the camera back. It's my sisters school camera and she's gone to her friends. She took the camera with her so I may have to wait a while.

Yes IRN's do make a different sound.
Here is a clip of an IRN, this is not my bird

Kikorangi makes a lot more noise than my alexandrines. They aren't as loud as my alex but he sure is nosier. Kikorangi's call is different from other IRN's. He sounds more like a Tui (native NZ bird) but at a higher pitch and in a parrot squawk. It's kind of hard to explain :p He also clucks like a chicken sometimes. Kikorangi's does it pretty often but it's usually in the morning and before he goes to bed.

Here is what a tui sounds like

Hehe thank you Remy :D

I think Alex is just coming up to 2 years old. If not 2 he is coming up to 3. He actually showed pink feathers before any black. And he seems to be getting more black feathers. I don't know his true age. Im guessing he will be 2 soon. Ive heard some sub spieces of alexandrines can take up to 3 years to show any signs of a ring forming.(any pitch black feathers/pink feathers)

Yuki is just under a year old. She should be 1 in November. She was DNA'd so I know she is female.

And thank you :)
