Hi everyone,

I'm a new joiner with a M&F alex which I have looked after for 3 years.

I raised the male from a pre-weaned chick (rescue) and the female is a rescue aged somewhere between 3 and 30. Now they control 40% of my lounge and are waging war for the rest.

Looking forward to reading all your posts - I enjoy all parrot forums but it was nice to find a little corner for Alexandrines.

My male must be due to puberty soon....wish me luck!!!

Welcome to the forum! I have a male alex who has just hit one year old this week. He's awesome!
How old is your male?

Good to have another alexandrine parent on the forum.

Hes about 3 now Brad .... has yours got his stripe yet? I remember that period well.... examining him every day until *ping* a tiny single red feather on his neck.

Hi and welcome to the forum C:
It''s nice to see another alexandrine parent on the forum. : )

I also have a male and female alex.
My female is coming to 1 year now and I think my male is coming up to 2 years(im guessing as he was a rescue). He just started to get a few pink feathers. I was so excited as I was starting to think he was a she c:

Not yet Ian, ours only has a grey shadow.
He's not actually DNAd as the rearer only DNAs 50% of her birds and guesses the others, so we're not 100% sure but I do know that she has lots of experience with birds, she literally raises 100s.

I'm guessing "he" will still take another few months to a year.

How old was yours when you first saw his pink feather? I wonder if it also happens a specific time of year.
I hear it's after their 2nd full molt

I have read the black ring doesnt appear until around 36 months, is this true ? I rescued a male today and was told he was 2 years old but he has his ring . Also does the black of the ring only go around the front of the neck and red/ pinkish around the back ? Im an Ekkie owner and new to the Alex, so I will have many questions .

It depends on the sub species.
I have heard that some alexandrines that are 3 years old just started to get a pink feather. While I have seen others at 2 years old and they have their full ring.

I don't know Alex's true age so I can't tell you what age my guy is. D:
