Ice Cold In Alex

My birds live in a cage surrounded by full length glass 'patio' windows. Its been the usual miserable summer in the UK but the temperatures have never really gone below 16C/60F.

In winter those windows are going to make the whole lower floor pretty cold at night. I know aviary birds are hardened down to low temperatures but my two have never really gone below 8C/50F (we used to live in warmer climes in aircon).

Does anyone have experience of Alexs in really cold weather? I don't really want to run the heating continuously but I don't mind buying a special bird heater/heated perch which is efficient.

I'm not really sure what 'cold' is to an Nepalese Alex...presumably in their native Pakistan/Afghan it gets pretty nippy at night.
