well oxy is now flying. Not 100% that its a god thing. Last thursday he some how escaped and i thought i had lost him,but found him in the morning up a tree down the road. i couldnt coax him down nor could i climb up and get him, so i got the fire brigade to help.
then to top it off today he flies out of his room while kitty is inside. i stood straight up as oxy flew over my head but kitty was quicker. i stood up to see kitty sitting about a meter off oxy eyeing him off and kitty wasnt happy when i picked oxy up.
i bought him a feather teather and it arrived yesterday. after he played with it for a bit he let me put it on him, but it was too big to take him out in it. i have since adjusted it but he wouldnt let me get any further then putting it over his head.
i cant wait till i get him used to the harness and it adjusted to fit securly so i can take him out to the beach again

Arrgh! Please be really careful! Cats and open windows!!!! I've seen the results of both, please don't put yourself through that.

Oxy looks really healthy, good luck with the harness. If memory serves me right its about 6mths from the rough age of Oxy until his body is fully grown and he'll fit better in the harness. You are really smart introducing it to him so early - I wish I had done that.

American Bulldog Mix,
Congrats but don't forget you have to train him to fly, flapping his wings and taking off isn't good flying it's just being wild :) good luck to you! There's also the flight suits too but heh have built in birdie diapers but you get a breathed fit by the grams your bird weighs

ian, i have since screened all of my windows and oxy is never left unattended when his bedroom door is open. the cat is vary rarely inside during the day and when ever he is inside and shows any attention to oxy he gets sprayed with water (he doesnt like that). so now he doesnt pay much atention to oxy, but yesterday was the first time scan had seen the bird fly like that so of course it would grab his attention.
mara, i am in the process of trying to train him to fly on command but i have only had him for 4 weeks and he is only just getting comfortable outside of his cage. i had thought of the flight suits, mainly for the diaper part but it is so hot where i live i couldnt imagine that the suit could be comfortable for him as he wont get any breeze to his skin.
