Hi all, we picked up our 5-6 wk old alexandrine baby today :) We have experience with birds but not hand raising and it's a little daunting.

The breeder gave us the appropriate hand rearing mix and explained what to do but I wanted to run a couple of things by you guys here. We're very nervous and don't want to do anything wrong.

He told us the baby is only feeding 3 times a day? Is this enough?

When he showed us how to feed, we noticed they only feed the baby about 10-15mls per feed, I was worried this also wasn't enough? I have not yet weighed the baby, I will do that in the morning, before feeding.

Worming? Is this necessary as a baby?

Introducing seed/pellets and fruit and veg, he told us around 7 weeks?

Any tips or other helpful hints and advice would be very much appreciated.

The baby appears happy and healthy but we will have our avian vet check him/her out.

Congrats on your new addition
It is so exciting, you must be over the moon.
Feeding three times a day is quite correct, between 10 to 15ml.
Ask the vet for advise about de-worming, some belive it it others not.
I de-worm my African Grey Mishka, once a year.
When taking your bird to the vet, have all your questions written down, this eliminates forgetting any.

^ There is some good info in that link, but keep in mind their info assumes that the baby is older and already weaned off baby food.

Hi, Yes I did see this web page and this will certainly help later on.

I guess I will continue on as I'm doing. He/She seems to be doing ok :) We haven't thought of a name yet...so hard when you need something that won't sound silly for either sex.

I've attached a photo, I think.... it's our baby after feed time this morning, having a little stretch :)
