found a baby alex.

i went to my a park near my house and found a baby bird. i didnt knew whose chick it was till i brought it home. i took it to my uncle who is a bird enthu. he told me its an alex parrot baby.
he already has one 5 yr old and a 2 mnth old alex. he told me to feed him cerelac to the bird as he also fed his birds with that. but i read on the internet its harmful to them. i am not getting the bird aby formula at my place here. what should i do. should i go with what my uncle said. please help i am so tensed about my baby bird. i found it yestrday and its only 15 days old i guess.

Oh wow. such a baby. lucky a human found it. i wonder how in the world the baby got there. maybe you can check with the park dept staff there and ask if they know of any parrot flock or family living in the park. maybe it's momma is around. i don't know anything about whether she would or wouldn't accept her baby back, even if you do find her though.

sorry i can't help you with the feeding info. hopefully someone here will reply to you very soon. i the meantime, you might go online and google "alexandrine breeder" and get in contact with a couple of good breeders to ask them for a recommendation on feeding.

ya i have the pics. i dont evn knw if its healthy or not. i gave him 5 ml of cerelac and he pooped a very watery stool . an he did that 3-4 times in an hour or so. and i have added the pics.

Suggestion: add "Help Please!" to front of your subject line.

You can google parrot handfeeding formula recipe and find a few recipes to use in an emergency. The best of course would be to purchase one already available, but there are recipes you can use if this is not available to you. Be sure to keep the baby warm. You could try asking locally for animal rescue help, any local bird breeders might also be able to help. Ask around at farm supply, feed supply places. I'm not sure where you are. Good luck to you and the little one.

Contact your local rescue/vet and breeders and ask for information and help. The rescue or breeder may offer to take them in on a temporary basis since it is so young and you are not experienced raising chicks.

Please keep this baby warm, even pureed food heated to about 107f/41c (any breeders can confirm this is about the right temp?) temperature is better than no formula. Don't feed cold and please make sure there are no 'hot spots' in the food, making sure it's heated thoroughly or you'll cause crop burn, bacteria to form in the crop, loads of things can go wrong so please please please seek help!

He will need food three or four times per day and it should be warm enough that you can just stick your finger in it.....be careful about only feeding him warm food because some birds will refuse to eat if their food is too cold and if the food is too hot to put your finger in, it is too hot for the bird to eat.

The watery poop is because you are feeding him cereal mix...birds will poop about every 15 minutes, so don't worry about that. When feeding him, watch his crop, the pouch on his neck, should fill up and appear fat...the bird usually will only take enough to satisfy its hunger, but your bird may try to eat a lot because he was hungry when you found him, and he may try to overeat.....feel his crop and if it gets too hard, hold back on his food until the crop empties out some.....

I assume you are feeding him from a spoon, so you need to be careful not to mix the food too dry (not enough water), because that can cause a condition called impacted crop, where the food is too dry for his system to move it through his body...a good mix might be where it just slides off of the spoon, but if the mixed food wants to stay on the spoon it's too dry and if it is runny like his poop, it is too wet.....

If you look around in the tree(s) under where you found him, I think you might find his nest...mynah birds like to push young young ring necked parrots out of their nest when the parents are away. I have a friend in Bahrain who rescued a rose-ringed parakeet that was somewhat older than yours, but he took it in and the bird's parents stayed around and the mother would fly down every day to feed her chick, even though the young bird was living in the house with my friend and his family.....the parents would come very close.....maybe as close as 2 meters, so take good care of your little friend.....

I will post some pictures of Filbert, the little rose-ring parakeet that got pushed out of his nest so you can see that a bird pushed out of its nest can be saved.....

Your uncle sounds like a person that can help you save this young bird.....

thank you everyone for your advice.
everyone i have asked the local shopkeepers who sell birds. everyone here is feeding them cerelac and sprouts too.
i fed him cerelac today in the morning with a syringe and he shook his head away again and again. i suppose he doesnt like the taste of it.
so i tried to give him sprouts and he went mad at them eating them eagerly and making noise for more.
just now i gave him mashed banana mixed with some water and he took that also.
should i feed him cerelac now i am afraid as it has lactose which can b bad for him.???
and i didnt found his nest there i thought of leaving him there but there are a lot of monkeys and dogs there. i dnt want him to be there breakfast.
And he is taking a nap post lunch. and he looks so cute when he sleeps.

and one more doubt. at my place atmospheric temp is about 30-35 deg c already. its hot i mean, do i need to still warm him and his food. i jst feel his skin and it already feels warm.???

he should be ok at that temperature, if they are living wild in your area than I wouldn't worry too much about the air temperature. just don't feed the lil' guy anything too ice cold.
