So Bundii has just decided that she was going to have a bath right before dinner. There is water from one end of my house to the other. Who would have thought that such a small bird could get that amount of water everywhere. She used all 3 water bowls and just about emptied each one. Well I guess after dinner I will be mopping the floors.

What *I* want to know is, how do you get Bundii to use a bowl for her bath?

The Beaks behave as if I'm trying to send them to Davy Jones' Locker if I try to put them in/near a bowl of water. Instead, I have to follow them round like a mad thing, misting them with a squirt bottle. They haven't quite gotten the idea that sitting still on the side of the sink would be a huge help! Instead, they run up my arms till I'm effectively showering my own head. If I stop, they squawk and fluff themselves up at me, posturing with their wings spread as if I were seventeen species of dolt! So, I keep misting, misting, misting until, like you, there's water from one end of the house to the other. There *has* to be a better way!?

Well Trish I am not sure how we get her to bath in her bowl. She just always has - from day one. It was kind of like sleeping in the happy hut, she just does it. It is funny though, she hates the shower, is still getting used to the spray bottle and will only bath under the hose if we are at my mums house. They can be strange creatures and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Usually when I vacuum the house she has to have a bath at the Sam e time and she always uses her bowls. We have tried giving her a bigger bowl so that she fit her whole body in but will not have anything to do with it. She will jus dip her feet in first and the. Her beak and the. She will just stand in the water and flap about which is hard to do when your body is almost bigger than the bowl. I will try to get it on video next time she bathes as the water just goes everywhere.

As I said the thing that I have most luck with is the vacuum cleaner. It Almost always makes her have a bath. So I have to be careful in winter if I vac at night time because she will bath. That's the other thing, she loves the water to be freezing but then loves nothing better than to do blow dried. She is one crazy bird.

I reckon the process of washing and drying an Alexandrine parakeet is the funniest sight in the bird world. They look *so* comical, all fluffed up and with their beaks pointing to Heaven! Please give Bundii very best wishes from Barney and Madge, won't you? ;)

Tango loves showers. If your birds don't like bathing in a bowl try running the shower while holding your bird off to the side and letting the water hit off your hand onto the bird. Tango loves it, she spread the wings turns around 360 degrees to make sure everywhere gets clean. Tango clearly thinks bath time should always be bird time.

Nimbus will only willing bath outside under the hose, and I have to have the multi head thing on set to mist, so I don't get water through my house, but she WILL NOT bath any other way.

You're a liar! That's exactly what I said about my bird. You likely don't even have a tangobird. Get your own bird anecdotes!

Yeah haha it's the mist they like. Too big drops of water and they freak out when it drips on them.

I know!! If we're out in the rain Nimbus is all WTF is this large sky water, head snakes everywhere trying to work it out

What I want to know is how you get him to wet his whole body. My sennie will only bathe in her water dish (no shower, no mister) and she only dunks her head and gets her chest wet, nothing else.

Oh, and she won't bathe in any other type of bowl.

Maybe that's enough for your sennie? And have him in the bathroom when you shower for steam? Sorry I don't really know :(

Do all birds need baths? I have a galah. I've squirted her with the hose because it's hot, but never given her an actual "bath". Do you use soap?

Bundii will only bathe in her water dish as well. She hangs from the side of her cage and dunks her whole head under the water. She then just sits in the water bowl. I am not sure how I got her to do this or if it just a natural action because she has done it since we got her at about 5 months. She is accepting of the spray bottle set n mist but it is not her favourite. Some days it is just the her feet and face that get a wash others it is a full on day spa where everything gets washed including the floor, walls, lounge chair. :D

I don't think you can use soap on birds as it is harmful to their skin. I think when they bathe and then preen they spread around the waterproofing powder they generate to ensure that their feathers don't get to heavy for flying. Someone can correct me if this is not right.

It is best to offer different methods of bathing including bowls, kissing, hose, shower, sinks etc to see what your bird likes best.

I'm not sure whether she liked getting squirted by the hose or not. I figured she sort of liked it because she didn't move away (which she could easily have done), although she went all weird and I don't know if it was a "good weird" or a "bad weird". Yes, I thought they were sort of waterproof (or is that just ducks?) It's amazing how clueless I am. At least I'm learning....

If bundii is enjoying herself she has her wings outs, acts all excited, runs/waddles end one end of her cage to the other and just generally acts crazy .
