they will start weaning on their own. how many times a day are you feeding? start introducing mashed up veggies and fruit.

I am hand feeding twice a day. it is eating pellets(ultra sized) on its own.... but in very little amounts. how much should a parrot feed? in terms of weight?

I can't answer the weight question other than a healthy bird will gain weight or maintain weight and a sick bird will lose weight. We are hand feeding a 6 week old sun right now and he eats until his crop is full which is also when he is full and won't take anymore formula. he nibbles on millet and smashed up fresh fruit.
We only feed him the formula when his crop is empty to prevent sour/spoiled crop.

I don't think that's a cute bird at all.

Haha nah i'm lying, looks like a great little guy...around 12 weeks is good for weaning so about 3 months old.

Looks big for his age, but can tell is young because the eyes are still black.

Tango weaned very late...and looking back it was because she enjoyed hand feeding so much. As soon as I just took a day and didn't hand feed her, she was eating pellets and veggies, but as long as the option to hand feed was there she loved the attention!

Y'know that's funny, Mr Squak. My Madge is like that too. Even at fourteen months, she still feeds like a baby at every opportunity she gets. If I offer her peanut butter on my finger, she'll take my whole fingertip in her mouth and then start thrusting away like a baby bird would. I kind of like it, as it seems she trusts me and loves me as her Mummy. Barney doesn't do it, but Madge just doesn't seem to want to be a big girl quite yet. :)

Haha, I know it made me really nervous.

I didn't want to just stop handing feeding but I was assured by a breeder that the bird was just choosing to wait for hand feeding out of preference and wouldn't let herself starve.

Talon...the grey, is also like that at around 14-15 months. Wants to be a baby bird, although we got talon already weaned.

Yeah, it's definitely something positive...our birds love us!
