So some of you may know that Bundii absolutely hates hands. I can touch her with any part of my body but not with my hands. I have been trying bribery in many forms but her sense of fear is so much stronger than anything I have tried. Peanut butter, nope, honey, nope, pine nuts, nope walnuts, nope. :(

Yesterday I found something that she was happy enough to walk on my hand. It is the kitchen pantry cupboard. I happened to have her on my shoulder whilst putting away the groceries. I did not think anything of it when I opened the cupboard and went to put some stuff away. She literally flew down my arm and sat on my hand while checking out the stuff in the cupboard.

I think we were both as shocked as each other. I was *SO* excited. I had tears in my eyes. It is the first time she voluntarily stood on my hand. I had to call hubby, who was at work, just to tell him of my breakthrough. I am so excited. :D Can you tell.

I think I might have created a monster though. Every time I go to the pantry now, Bundii expects to come *HELP* me. She is not much help through. Trying to get her beak on everything. I cannot complain though, I am so so so proud of my baby girl. Small steps to start so hopefully she will soon be loving our hands.

Oh that's so lovely! :)
Isn't is so hard to contain your excitement when they trust you to let you do something new!
Diesel has just started letting us stroke his head. I was sure one of us was going to be bitten, but he has been very tolerant, so far.
Congratulations!

OH YESS!!! Well done Amanda!!! I can just imagine how you felt and thanks so much for sharing the moment with us. :) :) :)

Y'know, all my lot are fascinated by the kitchen pantry too and it occurs to me that most of their treats come out of that precise pantry. Maybe Bundii's figured the pantry is the Temple of All Treats and wants to inspect it?

Just a word of warning, though. Barn and Madge have both nearly lost toes through perching on the pantry door! Also, I actually (uhm...) shut Madgie in the pantry once, by accident. Just sayin'. You need to be careful when you have birdie pantry inspectors. :D

Next time you have Bundii on your hand, have treats ready and shovel them into her. She'll become your very best bracelet in no time!

Barney and Madge send happy squawks to Bundii. XX

Thank you all for your kind words. Well tonight when hubby was home, I decided to show him our progress. I can happily say that this time I did not get one bite from Bundii. I think she was showing off for her dad.

Trish thanks for the warning. Bundii does not sit on the pantry door but I will definitely keep it in mind. I think she would spend hours in there if I would let her. I could see how them being locked in could happen. :)

Bundii with her big birdie grin at being in the pantry. Now if only she would get dinner started for me.

Busy inspecting what mum has stashed in the pantry.

If only mum would let me onto the Bundii shelf. The one with all my treats. :D

Yay Bundii! Sounds like your patience is paying off:) She looks right at home on your hand. Now that you've allowed her in once, expect she will want in every time:52:. I have never met the parrot who doesn't love sitting in cabinets:)

Heee! I recognise that expression on Bundii's face! It's just like Barney when he thinks I'm about to break open the peanut butter. Bundii us just gorgeous, Amanda, and so green she's almost luminous.

Here's an idea to try.

Give Bundii a treat or two while on your hand and then move her away from the cupboard. Hold out your other hand (with treat clearly visible in it) and call her name. See if she'll fly or hop to your other hand by way of getting to her cupboard. If she does, you've got the beginning of recall training right there!

Kisses to Bundii: she's a Good Bird! XX

Amanda, I am so thrilled with the amazing progress with Bundii! Who knew that all it took was letting her rearrange the pantry:) I bet it will not take long before she wants to be on your hands when she is nowhere near the pantry.

How is it possible that she gets more beautiful all the time? I think Xander is already packing his bags in anticipation of coming for a visit. I hope he will save me some room in his suitcase:)

Terry you guys are more than welcome to visit any time you are Oz. I am not sure how Xander and the flock will go getting into Australia though. :(

Bundii had not long had a bath so she was looking particularly beautiful. But I might be a bit bias on that comment. :D

I don't know what makes me more jealous- your beautiful alex or the dairy milk chocolate in your pantry!! XD

It's a hard choice but I think I will take the Alex. It is hubby who is the chocoholic. :D

Lucky for me they were on special at the supermarket this week so I took the opportunity to stock up for Anthony (hubby).

You should all come! Our birds are great and most of them are so polite, you can see them from easy vantage points. There are huge flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets, even in the middle of Sydney. They used to come to the feeder on my (then) boyfriend's flat. From there, if they were feeling bold, they'd come in the kitchen window and scavenge for crumbs off the benches. Once, a RL got in while we were out. We came home to find a furious bird and much poop in the flat. Euuuww! RL poop does NOT go well with white Indian Cotton upholstered furniture, especially not when the abovementioned RL has been feeding extensively on orange palm nuts!

Anyway, you should all come and see our numerous parrots in the wild as well as the many and varied habitats we have for our unique wildlife. We have alpine environments, tropical and temperate rainforest, desert, savannah, excellent wetlands (especially in the far north) as well as probably the longest coastline in the world (being an island and all). Lots of diverse places and species to look at here in Oz.

So yeah! Come on over! :)
