CAG Quincy - BD 3/27/00. Gotcha 6/00 ~ GW Macaw Savannah - BD 6/21/93. Gotcha 4/13 ~ B&G Macaw Coqui - BD 9/3/03. Gotcha 10/13 ~ Blue Crown Conure Sidney - BD Unknown Approx 5 Years Old. Gotcha 6/15/
So I'm hoping to adopt an Alexandrine next year and I'm trying to find a good breeder as I want a well socialized baby.

Before you mention rescue just know 3 of my 4 birds are from other homes, I've looked for a rescue Alexandrine for several years and no luck in my area. A rehome has to be within driving distance as I don't want to adopt a rescue I know nothing about or have not met at least once! So I would rather adopt a baby. I think I've done a good share of rescuing. ;)

I would prefer a breeder within driving distance but will make an exception if I find a breeder I hear great things about! Si any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! :)

Also, will this cage be OK for an Alex. I already own it and would love to use it but want to make sure it's OK for an Alex first.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Sadly, Xander would snap the bars of that cage in about 2 seconds:( I have several of those as well and love the space, but Xander has a really strong beak.
I would definitely go with one that has bigger gauge wire and larger bar spacing for your new baby.
Wish I could help with breeders, but am too far away:(

I had a feeling the wire was too thin. Thanks for the confirmation! I have time to sell this one and get a replacement so it's not so bad! ;)

Alexandrine Breeders are not as easy to find as other parrot species. I do have a couple in mind but want a couple more to research! Thanks for the cage advice either way. It's very much appreciated!

Blanca, you could always keep the cage..you know, just in case the "last bird" thing doesn't pan out;)
I am such an enabler.

That would definitely work, but since you have to get a new one, I think I would go a little wider and deeper, if possible. Their tail takes up so much room. Xander is is a 36X30(I think, will measure) and he uses every single bit of the cage.

Edit: Just measured and his is 40x30. You definitely don't have to go that big, though.

OK, good to know! I have read they can be really long with that tail! I'll keep looking! :)

Have you looked here? I have no idea about quality, but they have some great prices. I wish shipping wasn't so outrageous to get one up here.

Awesome! I tried your link to BirdCages4Less and it didn't work, but they do sell cages on Amazon. I actually like the color of this last cage I found! :D

Not sure if that link is working right because when I clicked on it it showed the smaller version but here is the actual picture of the cage I think I am going with. It is 36x30. Thanks again Terry for all the help! By choosing now, this will give me time to save up for the bird and new cage!

Bundiibird - Alex - hatched 31/08/09
& Millie - BFA - hatched 29/10/14 & Willow - CAG - hatched 30/10/19
As an idea Blanca, Bundii is approx 55cms from head to tip of tail. When she moults her tail feathers, they are about 35cms long. Just for a bit of an idea of how much of the Alex size relates to the tail. The tail gets in the way of everything. I usually have to stop and think if the tail before I make any changes to Bundii's cage and buying a travel cage was hard.

As Terry said that beak is strong. Definitely the strongest gauge wire possible for the cage. I will measure Bundii's cage once she is awake. It is still birdie sleep time here.
