Re: Is my alexandrine parrot male or female.....

I just can't tell.

Of much bigger worry for me is the vitamin/nutrition. Most people seem to feed their Alexandrines a pelleted diet, supplemented with fresh fruits and veggies. Other diets, especially all-seed diets, are said to produce feather blackening. I'm really worried for your little guy.

You can order pellets online... Lafeber's and Harrison's are both good. Maybe you can buy some locally.

I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff. My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day.

Please, please, look into this, if it applies to you.

Your bird certainly looks male. His head is the right shape. While pink feathers are only found in the male's neck ring, it's not unusual for the odd pink feather to turn up on a female from time to time. The black feathers of the ring usually appear first, but there are always exceptions. If another pink feather appears soon, then I'd bet you have a boy! (Beautiful bird, by the way!) :)
