It is likely that Rio has a Respiratory Infection and will need to see a Avian Vet ASAP. Rio appears to be working hard to breath. The action is called tail pumping and combined with using the muscles of the chest to compress the Air Sacks is likely the only way Rio is getting air into and out of the Air Sacks.

Generally, when a Parrot is working like this to breath, time is very short and professional help is needed very quickly! If you are a long way from Professional Help. Call them! You're Parrot is seriously ill!

If Rio was my Parrot, I would be at the Avian Vet's client as soon as I became aware of this type of Breathing!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Rio is definitely having a respiratory issue, wondering if the vet did a blood panel to help determine the type of organism he is fighting? That allows a more precise drug prescription.

I hope Rio sees improvement quickly and fully recovers. Please keep us advised of progress!

I just saw this, I'm hoping Rio is OK. He definitely has a respiratory infection and needs antibiotics to get rid of it, I'm assuming that the vet you went to was not an avian vet, so they didn't really know what was going on with Rio.

Birds don't get "colds", a cold is a virus that people get, birds get bacterial and fungal infections in their respiratory systems. The only way to cure them is by hopefully doing a culture of his nares and throat, and then diagnosing what bacteria it is, then prescribing the correct antibiotic.

I hope Rio is getting better or you are able to get him to a certified avian vet immediately.
