Hi guys I am new here. Want to share a good news tht we will be acquiring an alexandrine baby today. He is born March 14-16 so he is approximately 2 months old and currently the breeder is feeding him 2 times daily. I have had alexandrines in the past and fed then using syringe techniques and raised them successfully in India. Here in Toronto, Canada I have had my share of successes and failures of keeping Moluccan to African Greys. So I am a bit experienced and novice both. I say novice because I have never raised a baby parrot in Canada...I would like to hear learn what I should be doing right what I should be avoiding to make the bird (we have to give him a name yet) and our transition smooth and enjoyable. More than anything I just want to keep a happy bird and take care of him to the best of my abilities. Thank you. I will post pictures later on with a name. My kids want to pick "Twitter" as his name will see how tht goes lol..

Make sure you get him a nice warm fur lined Birdy Parka, for those -20degC days.

Welcome to the forums, congratulations for Yusuf! I've never had an Alexandrine, but they are beautiful birds!

Banana, apple, and chickpeas are all good. I'd recommend reading from the Parrot Food, Recipes, and Diet forum for more great ideas!

Thank you Scott for the link. Great read. I am now feeling I am at the right place for any advises in providing care to Yusuf. It's a new journey which I am hoping to be enjoyable for him and my family. Thank you once again.

Yusuf is slowly getting trained to step on the perch above his cage and it seems like he was enjoying it today...

So after a week Yusuf has started to recognize me and my fmly. He steps up on all our hands and steps down. His initial bite has reduced to minimal. When I say initial bite this means at first when he was new he was holding our fingers in his beak with good strength you can feel the pressure now it has subsided which tells me he has started accepting us..allows us to pay on his back and head. Feeds from our hands etc....
