I am going to accept that it was my fault .

I was working from home yesterday and Rio was stuck me on my shoulder.
He loves to watch Barney and 'I love you' song is a favourite.
I usually sing the song and the keyword to repeat again is 'SING'
So just because he was such a good boy , I played the song on my laptop once, twice , thrice.....Then I wanted to finish my work so I stopped the video.

Totally my fault , I didn't realise the 'SING' was getting louder and louder. I missed the eye pinning completely and the 'ouuch' also. Rio just latched on to my nose.
A little more pressure and I could put a nose ring.:(

Just minutes after that he was giving me kisses from his cage

So no shoulder time for Rio till my nose heals :(

Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.
Yes! This can happen. They just momentarily lash out. But have no malice in their heart. But an Alexandrine beak can be powerful.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
yep, they can be bratty when they want! I would do the exact same after a moment like that, keeping the shoulder off limits until they prove they're going to be good

Must be adorable watching him sing along with Barney!

I agree the shoulder is a privilege reserved only for birds who don’t lash out unpredictably.

In my case, Griffin either jumps on my back or flies to it. It’s fine when he’s back there, but if/when he gets to the shoulder, it’s time to shake my body to get him to go. Sometimes he hangs on tenaciously. I don’t trust him at all, as I know he’s unpredictable, as I mentioned in someone’s Earwax thread.

In Griffin’s case, he IS bite pressure trained. If I say “gentle” he will nibble acceptably. Although I’m apprehensive to offer my flesh now that he’s mature. Although he knows bite pressure, it’s as if he gets a sudden nervous tic and just has to do it (strike out and bite hard) for some reason.

I’m so sorry about your bite, and I hope you heal fast!

Senegal Parrot named "Kane"; Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conure named "Bowie"; Blue Quaker Parrot named "Lita Ford"; Cockatiel named "Duff"; 8 American/English Budgie Hybrids; Ringneck Dove named "Dylan"
Ouch!

To his credit, he did tell you to "SING" :58:

Reminds me of my Quaker, Lita...she will say "No Bites!" first, and if that doesn't get my attention she'll then say "Ouch!"...If that doesn't do it, my ear usually gets pierced. It's amazing that they know how to both warn you and mock you at the same time...

Thank you all for your advice and concern. The bite wasn't as bad after I cleaned it up. But no more barney when Rio is on my shoulder:)
We had some step up drills after that with no treats involved , the parrot was not very happy but this is what I do when he is bratty . No sure if its the right thing to do but somehow I feel he knows the behavior was not good

Lordtriggs Rio cannot sing but there are lot of loud noises he makes and struts up and down when he listens to barney, but he is an extremely good talker and imitates a lot of sounds .
The truth is more than Rio I get scared of budgie bites , I have two and they look like blue and yellow fluff balls but so unpredictable and their bites hurt like needle pricks

I am little more careful when Rio is on my shoulder but its difficult to stop the shoulder thing completely as he is never been clipped and flies every time to me . He will just sit on my shoulder and supervise . Some of the favorite phrases are:
What are you doing?
Why are you scheming?
Be quick
Get up
Ok
Random loud kiss noises
Random calling out to my daughter by her name
And when he sees my husband - Dada is come
Some very evil laughter
Praise the Lord in repeated cycles with Amen in between (Rio loves my FIL prayer meets)
Oh and he loves having video and phone calls
