Hi,

I purchased a new cage for my Alexandrine, and kept some toys for playing. I have heard that the birds get bored inside the cage alone and need some toys to play around and to be relaxed.

Can anyone suggest why he is not interested in toys?

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
Sometimes they have nooooo idea what toys are for and you have to show them (a lot).

My macaw had no clue (she prefers shredding feathers instead) so teaching her how to play and blow off steam that way is high on the agenda :)
Every time she as much as touches a toy brings tears to my eyes (I know: soppy and overly sentimental) every second playing is a milestone in the beginning!

The greys will ignore a toy for months on end and all of a sudden its the most favorite item in the world!
*That is why I do not swap (all) toys every few days- sometimes they need to stare it down for a few seasons before they will touch it.

Some birds just love to shred, some will only play with foottoys (or with their food), some just don't seem to want to play at all, but enjoy the change of scenery.
