Hi
My Alexandrian female age 6 years is losing her feathers. She is tamed and never goes to cage all day but at night only she goes to cage. I started to put her in cage at day time 2 months ago.
I am very worrying about her feathers because no new feathers are coming.
I visit vet doctor and he give her multivitamin syrup. I have started syrup from 2 weeks but feathers are still losing.
Please advice

Did your vet test her skin (did he wipe her skin and look at the sample under a microscope)? Did he test her blood (draw blood and test it)?

Because her feather loss is on her head, I do not think she is pulling her own feathers. She seems very sick, but you need to find out what is making her sick. She could have an illness or a skin problem. Your vet needs to do tests in order to find out the reason. Is he a vet specifically for birds? School for bird vets is very different from other vets. Other vets do not always know how to treat birds.

Thank you for your reply
He did not check under micro scope or blood test. He only check physically.
Is there any possibility of feathers come back?

Without knowing from tests, we don't know.

If it is a skin problem, she could regrow them after she gets proper medicine. If it is an illness, she might never regrow them.

More important, if it is an illness, she could die soon. If it is a skin condition, she could get ill and die soon.

Most important, if it is an illness, without treatment, she could pass on this illness to others.

Where are you located? Perhaps we can find a vet who can do the tests for you.

Oh, poor thing. She looks very poorly. That is worrying because the gaps are so clear, not like plucking or she rubbed them off.

I do think the only way you will get proper answers is to go back to the vet and get them to do proper blood tests etc.

I hope she is ok and you too :)

Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.

1- I notice bit swelling on one side where feathers comes off.
2 I paint their cage about 1 month ago, she is very used to bite cage wires and paint comes off from cage wires.

Please advice and possibilities, I am worrying about her.

Hi
What is possibilities of feather come back?

What was the exact name of the illness that the vet said she had?
If it is PBFD, there is no chance of feathers coming back. If it is another disease, there might be a chance.

You need to find out exactly what is the disease/sickness. Without that, you don't even know if your bird will live or die soon.

Are the antibiotics topical (you put on her skin) or oral (she eats them)?

How did he test for it? Did he do any swabs or blood tests? Or did he just look at her?

If he used to bite the cage wires and the paint came off, did the vet test for heavy metal poisoning?

Hi Pintu, I know you are keen to know if and when the feathers will come back, but I don't think anyone here will be able to answer that, at least not without more information and answers to the questions already asked above.
