Re: Urgent! Sick parrot!

Welcome to you and your sick Alexandrine.

The symptoms apply to a wide range of illnesses, very difficult to diagnose without lab work. Are you able to post pictures and/or videos? None of us are veterinarians but may offer some advice.

If you are able to get medicines, please use extreme caution. Giving the wrong types may be either useless or harmful. Is there any chance a local vet will provide remote appointment with Skype or Facetime?

Re: Urgent! Sick parrot!

Are you sure no vets are available? Ours are open for curbside only, I don't think they ever actually shut down because animals continue to need medical attention. Are you sure none are open at this moment?

Where are you located?

Re: Urgent! Sick parrot!

Perhaps you could phone a vet?

Certified Avian Vets
https://abvp.com/animal-owners/find-an-abvp-specialist/
If none are near you...
Avian Veterinarians
http://www.aav.org/search/custom.asp?id=1803
In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"
I am so sorry.
Good luck!

500% agree- try to find a vet...we will do little in terms of the testing that would need to take place to diagnose this, but....

Does he have any bulges around his abdomen or vent and is he straining to poop?

What color are his urates (there are three parts to poop--- the urine (liquid), the poop (fecal) and the urates (the white "sprinkles" or "silly string" that covers the poop). The urates are the "silly string" or "sprinkles" and they should be white or cream colored.

Re: Urgent! Sick parrot!

I think he's from the Indian subcontinent and finding aviary vets here is a pain in the a** as there is more $$$ in specializations of cats and dogs. In Pakistan, the breeders probably know more than 95% of the vets out there.

There are some south asian breeders who regularly post their videos online regarding parrot diseases. Try finding them on y-o-u-t-u-b-e.

P.S. I once lost a baby alex. Reasons could be many or could be one or two, still haven't figure it out. Learnt a lot from that experience. I still feel bad about it though. Stay on top of your bird. They are vulnerable at this age like a human baby. I wish you luck !

Re: Urgent! Sick parrot!

There is also an Australian formula they recommend. It's called Triple C. It really helps sick birds revive. Try getting it

Re: Urgent! Sick parrot!

I have not worked with birds this young. But for adult birds , I have noted that a Tulsi tea works

Heat the water , add a tulsi leaves, let it steep. Once it has cooled down, offer this decoction to the birds.

Which part of India are you from? Some parts have vets and you can get in touch, at least on phone.
