White-fronted Amazon???

When compared to other Amazon, white-fronted amazon is smaller,
but,

how about their talking ability?
lifespan?

??

i have one but cant tell ypu its stoll a baby. but i read that they live aboit 40-60 years if taken good care. as talling ability goes some say not so good. but some say good enough. try yoitube to see how they talk. i also would like to know.

They're great mimcers of sounds. Like dings and rings and other weird tones.
There lifespan is about 50+ years if taken care of. There great parrots and awesome companions

Am I too silly to think that as the white fronted amazon is smaller than other amazons, it will live shorter as maybe 20-30 years old?

I had a white fronted Amazon who spoke clearly and intelligently. We had short converstions., She was AMAZING. She could also sing and laugh. Unfortunately she died when she was 20. The vet said they don't live as long as the bigger
Amazons. He said twenties, and sometimes they make it into their thirties but he has never seen one older than that. My sweet parrot started trying to mate with her toys when she about 2 1/2 years old so right there that says something about their shorter lifespan. Wish it was different. I wanted to have her 40-50 years!

The breeder that I got my Senegal parrot from this past November also bred white-fronted Amazons, and he had one hand-fed baby left from a clutch of 3 that he hadn't sold yet. I drove down to North Carolina to get my Senegal, I found him on birdbreeders.com, and he was the closest Senegal that was a hand-raised baby (I'm in PA). So he directed me to his very small website, it's he and his wife, they breed Senegals, Myers, Red-Bellied Parrots, Quakers, and White-fronted Amazons. I knew absolutely nothing about White-fronted Amazons at all, so when I got down there I got to meet the little guy and play with him a bit. I asked all the normal questions you would about them since I knew nothing, and he actually took me into his breeder's room to show me the parents. He said that they can learn to talk very well and that they are also great at mimicking sounds. He obviously showed me how large they get and told me that most live to be between 25-30 years old. It was a beautiful baby parrot, and he was selling him for only $250 as he wanted him to find his forever home soon. He said he was trying to make sure that he spent at least a couple of hours a day with the baby so that he would remain tame, and he was. Then of course he tried to switch me from the Senegal, lol... Didn't work, but I would have been very happy with that little White-fronted Amazon!

Very sorry that your White-Fronted Amazon past so very young. Not sure why your Vet stated that WFA have such a short-life, possibly to comfort you.

White-Fronted Amazon can easily live in to their fifties and possibly longer.

Live span for all mid to larger Parrots has been falling of late, which is caused by a combination of poor diet and an inactive life style. Providing a diet that is based on Healthy Natural Fresh Foods with or part of a 'Chop' helps greatly. Eliminating sunflower and sunflower like type of seed and Peanuts will help greatly. The dry part of their diet should include Human grade seeds, nuts, grains with pellet base.

From my experience with Avian vets (good ones too), they don't always accurately know lifespan of species. The data they go by is from seeing certain species in their clinic repeatedly over the years, and seeing a pattern. Commonly, birds have shorter than potential lifespans from bad health, sunflower seed and peanut diets, etc.

Seriously, they can live into their 50's? I completely believe you and trust your expertise regarding Amazon parrots (I have very limited experience with Amazons), I'm just perplexed because as I stated the breeder that I got my Senegal from is also a White-Fronted Amazon breeder and has been for years and years. They not only have breeders but they also have one that is their personal pet. I told him I knew absolutely nothing about them and that I had never seen one in person before, and he said that he had originally rescued one years and years ago, and that's how they got into breeding them along with Senegals, Myers, and Red Bellied parrots, it's an odd combination but they loved their White-Fronted Amazon so much that they have had 2 so far as pets and have been breeding them for a long time now. I asked him specifically if they lived as long as larger Amazons and he said no, unfortunately most White-Fronted Amazons live to be between 25-30, some a few years longer but not many make it past 30. That's weird that both an experienced breeder/personal owner of them and also an avian vet said the same thing...

I trust you completely though... Mr. Google here I come to do some research!

We enjoyed the presents of a LCA for a very long time! She past when she was 48 years old and had not she suffered years of very poor care would have easily lived into her late fifties as my close friends LCA lived. LCA and WFA's share a very like size overall.

Life for very well cared for Amazons and all mid - to larger Parrots can live very long lives when provided very healthy diets and allowed to fly. If the poor diet doesn't kill them, heart & lung failure will. Hence, the reason an every greater number of our mid to larger Parrots are presenting ever young with Heart / Lung (air sack) problems.

Tiels are living 20+ years, why would it be surprising for a LCA or a WFA to live much longer.

FYI: Healthy Larger Amazons can live well into their 60's and I know a Mealy Amazon that is into her 70's now!

Remember the points regarding bad diet and not flying! Its all about the effects of great blood flow and a healthy body support by a health diet!

They very much are, and I was so lucky to find them. It was just a small advertisement on Craigslist, and I had gone a long distance out to do my search because I wasn't finding any Senegal babies anywhere. They are located in between Raliegh, NC and Fayetteville, NC. I'm not sure if they actually have a website or not, or a Facebook page, but I just texted him to ask him, so I'll list their info as soon as I hear back from him.

Well, my white front had a diet of mostly fresh food with 1T seeds a day, sunflower seeds only as a rare treat. Since she wouldn't eat pellets I crushed them and put them on her fresh food, so she did get them altho not in original form. She had out time of 2 1/2 - 3 hours a day.

Her last vet was too honest to lie. The vet I had taken her to previously missed her underlying problem.

But we had a GREAT time together. I know I experienced the very best of the parrot world with Sweet Pea.

Another thought, just like humans genetics can play a part. Many people live to 90 nowadays but not everyone does...I fully expected my parrot to live the 50 years websites say they live. I went out of my way to give her good care and interaction, but it didn't happen like that. For me there was a lesson in it---not every pet lives a good long life even tho we surely want them to.

My white fronted amazon who is only 5 months old can already say peekaboo, laugh and do clicking sounds. I can tell sometimes he is trying to say hi, hello, good boy, and his name, but it's not very clear. Hope it helps!
