Ianto-10yr old M. YN-Amazon,

So, I adopted these two beautiful YN amazons a week back and they have settled in perfectly. They are up on thier playstand enjoying the day and eating out of my hand, and learning the first basics to step up. ( they were untamed when i got them) Well, I have heard a bunch of people talk about how thier birds LOVE LOVE LOVE nuts and sunflower seeds that they can crack themselves. I have tried a few times offering them to the birds and they like them more as a obkect just as a ball to throw since they have no idea there is something inside ( the previous owner had them on a basic seed diet and NOTHING else) I was able to convert them to a pellet diet and they like fruits and veggies only if they are in small slices that they can immediatly taste, but with the nuts they taste nothing but shell in the begining so won't give them a try. I know they love to break things and tear stuff apart so i think they would love cracking the nuts once they decide they like em. I have tried half cracking them and they love pulling them apart the rest of the way but they are not aware the nut inside is ediable so they just drop/throw it once its open. Any suggestions on how to get them in to know how on nuts?:greenyellow::greenyellow:
And here's a pic cause i love them so much i can't seem to post enough pics!

lol nuts and seeds are fattening so if there happy on a healthy diet of pellets with fruit an veg then let it be lol

nut is a nightmare with food, especially the healthy kind!

try foraging toys, them ping pong type balls with the holes are the best as they can see theres something in them :)

I must say your new birds look in pretty good condition to be on a seed diet for 10 years.

I give my Amazons nuts but because we only get nuts in the shell at christmas i just buy raw shelled nuts. You can try just putting them on top of their fav. food. Mine just love almonds & pine nuts.

Have you tried cracking it infront of them then offer them a piece? That how I get my birds to try new things, if they don't like them I would try something else.

I cracked a walnut in half and put it on the bottom of the cage. Birds will wonder what it is and investigate and then eat. It is fun!!
