Okay hi everyone,
I've been hand feeding Tika for a while now and after some advice from Henpecked (so appreciated) :D I have been working on weaning her. While I want to abundance wean her, she's been so cranky. Yesterday I offered her feeding with a spoon, she did okay on am and noon feeding, not taking full amount but enough to satisfy I suppose. She also ate fruit/oatmeal and softened pellets but again not a ton. Last night I offered to syringe feed her, but she wouldn't take but a tiny bit then a little more with the spoon, but really only took about 1/2 her normal amount. This am I tried to syringe feed again just trying to feel like I got one good feeding in. She was so darn cranky she wouldn't let me support her head she wanted to just bounce on the syringe by herself which I found really hard to control. Then she took off to her cage and was totally cranky. Is she just deciding to wean? Do Amazons get this my way or forget it behavior during weaning?:green:

If i am not mistaken your baby is trying to tell you that it doesn't want formula & is wanting to wean. When my babies start mucking up with their feeds, i cut out the lunch time feed & offer a variety of weaning foods in their cage. This encourages them to become independent. If they don't want to have the morning feed i will cut that out as well & only feed formula in the evening. I will keep feeding the evening feed of formula for as long as they want it. I am sure you will know about it if she is really hungry & wants formula.

That's what they call abundance weaning, they'll let you know if they want it.I'd do like Pedro advises. Have you tried grinding pellets and spoon feeding them wet (like oatmeal)? She's might be trying to tell you she's a big girl now.
