Pete is making conure sounds

Lately Pete has been making quite a few noises that I haven't heard before. He definitely seems to be imitating my Nanday as well. Yesterday he made her "Uh oh! Uh oh!" sound that she sometimes does when she's playing. I swear he's also making budgie noises. I haven't had a budgie in a long time, but I recognize them. I think his former owner must have had one. He told me he once had a B&G Macaw and also a Blue Crown conure.

Not a concern, but I thought I'd share because it's kind of funny. He is very much like a whole household of animals all by himself. He is a bird, he talks, sings opera, barks like a dog and meows. And now he's also a conure and a budgie. I kind of hope he doesn't start doing her screech, lol!

Oh, and I ordered DNA kits from Avian Biotech to find out if he is a girl or a boy. They will send you kits for free if anyone else wants to do this as well. It's pretty inexpensive to get the testing done. I think $25 for feather testing and just under $20 for blood testing. I think the former owner is correct that it is a male, but he doesn't done anything definitive to let me know for sure yet. Just lots and lots of mating dances and trying to get me to come live in the bottom of his cage with him. But, it sounds like female amazons can do these things as well from what I've read.

Re: Pete is making conure sounds

That's awesome! It kills me the things they can pick up just being around. Kazi apparently lived in a house where the phone rang a lot and whoever answered was happy to be talking to the person on the other end of the line. Kazi will make a brief beeping noise that sounds like a cordless phone ringing then say, "Hello?" like he's answering the phone, wait a second or two and let out a breathy, long drawn out, "hiiiiiiiiiii!" We call it his 'stripper' hi because he sounds all sexy and flirty when he says it.

Re: Pete is making conure sounds

Oh, that's hilarious! Someone was talking to her boyfriend, lol!

My Nanday says hello when my phone rings. Once I was in the shower so I couldn't answer it. I heard her yelling hello over and over. I'm sure she was wondering why it wouldn't shut up.

I have a friend with an amazon that does a pretty amazing phone ring.

Re: Pete is making conure sounds

I thought my african grey was actually trying to say pretty bird, until I realized he was mimicing the conure saying pretty bird.
