Parrots
Yellow-Naped Amazon, and two Peach Faced Lovebirds.
Hello!

I just adopted a Yellow-naped amazon from a woman who threatened to "throw him outside"...

I've never had a large bird but I took him and gave him a home anyway. So far, I don't really understand what her issue was with him. He's not in the slightest bit freaked out by anything. He appears personable and very talkative and eager to interact.

The only thing I notice is that his cage is rather, dull & dirty and his feathers are the same. He looks like he needs a good bath & better diet.

Any information regarding great healthcare and fun toys would be appreciated! I really want to work to give him the best home possible.

thank you for giving him a home, nut seems to like what ever i have, i have no idea what amazons like for toys, and if his previous owner never gave him many, he might not have an idea what to do with them!

I've had Pete for 3 months. He was on a mostly seed diet and his feathers aren't the greatest either. I now have him eating pellets, fruit, and veggies. I'm hoping once he's all molted he will look and feel better.

He also didn't know what toys are and gets very scared of new ones. I have to introduce a new toy slowly, first setting it next to the cage for a day or so, then hanging it outside the cage near the bottom and slowly moving it up each day. As far as what he likes, that's hard to say because he doesn't know yet either! He likes bells. And he likes to chew on wood. And when he chews a wood piece off a toy, he will go get it from the bottom of the cage and hold it in his foot and chew on it. But, when I put foot toys down there he is afraid of them. He also has a big hanging ladder kind of thing that he likes to swing around on.

Pete likes going into the shower with me for bathing. Or being sprayed with a plant mister.

Kazi - 13 yr old yellow nape amazon rescue
Awww, thank you for taking him in. I don't understand people that get amazons (or any parrot) and then decide it's too much work to give them the care they require. She was probably like Kazi's last owner. Lazy and just didn't want to put in the work required. Kazi's last owner was going to put him to sleep because she was sick of him! He's incredible! Loving, funny, smart. I don't get it.

Kazi loves straws (especially if they're cut up with a Wacky Whirly) and rope toys the most. He isn't a big wood chewer for the most part, but willow wreaths don't stand a chance. Congrats on the new addition!
