He has a closed band on his ankle that reads RG 3
I think the man said he was from San Jose California and is 15yrs old. But he changed his story a couple times, he was kinda confused though.

Paco is so friendly, Im really amazed. He has let everyone give him scritches and DOES not like going back in his cage(cant blame him he can only turn around in it).But man, Ive got scratches all over my hands and arms now.

I don't know much about tracing bands. Your vet may though, or someone here. My vet says based on Pete's open band and the numbers on it that he was wild caught. If he was though, he must have been a chick still.

You might see if Paco will let you trim his nails. He may be used to it and have no problems whatsoever letting you do it. If he isn't, ask the vet to Dremel the ends to round them when you take him in.

I just read that if they are wild caught it should have 3 letters and 3 numbers on the band if, of course, they are legal. And Pacos band has no opening so it had to be slide on his foot as a baby. Also its just the two letters and the one number.
heres a site I found
http://www.avianweb.com/legbands.html

We may have to trim Pacos wings too.I really really hate doing that to a bird. But he is flying randomly about and landing on everyones head(ouch). He doesnt want to go in his cage either this morning.I need to take my dog up to the vets really quick for his shot.im going to talk to her about Paco.Im pretty sure she will send off to the really expensive vet in the City. They charge 3 times as much and make you pay everything up front and then wont let you go in with your animal...I hate that vet.

Avian vets are more expensive than dog/cat vets, but they also go to school longer just like our spe******ts do.

Ouch! Landing on your heads, yikes! Ok, I admit, I would not want Pete on top of my head probably, lol!

The problem with tracing leg bands is that they aren't always from a central agency (like USFWS wild bird bands, for example); they're often privately made and mostly just for the breeder to be able to identify individuals and keep track of his/her own flock.
And based on how very short that number is, I'm guessing that's the case with your bird.

Leg Band Registry
I searched it on there and nothing popped up. I don't know of any other registries you could try but I wouldn't get my hopes up, unfortunately.

I was thinking that as well. And who knows if the breeder is still in business.

Yes, Pete has the letters and numbers that seem to indicate wild caught birds.

Does Paco's former owners still have his papers from the breeder? If he does, you will know his hatch date.

Goggle bird band manufactures . They won't tell you who's band it is but they will tell you if they made it.Then ask them to give your info to the owners of that band. It's up to the breeder to contact you, some have ,but many don't. Import Bands, open USDA quarantine bands, have a code for which station and year. FORGET getting any info about your band other than what station it went through, and the year. Some closed bands bought thru organization like the AFA , will have AFA on them and info can be obtained through them. (like my birds are). A band like yours came from a manufacture like L&M Leg Bands in Cal. and has what ever the breeder wanted on it. Don't forget when talking to the manufactures that they are doing you a favor.Good luck
