I've been saying it to him every night when I cover his cage, but he hasn't said it back. Just now on a TV show someone said, "Goodnight" and he said it back, lol! Boy, he's turning into quite the little talker these days!

He's actually doubled his vocabulary since he's been here. It makes me think no one ever talked to this poor boy most of his life. He's obviously capable of being a really good talker considering how many new things he has learned at his age.

Good job, Pete! :)

I tried for over 30 years to get George, the YCA, to say good night, and he never would. Maybe he just didn't like the association of those words with going to bed at night. :D

I know. I've never been able to get a bird to say "Bye bye". They don't like for me to go bye bye.

Well, he didn't say it at bedtime, but it's a start. At least we know he can say it now. Rowdy has said it for years, and I'm trying to teach the other 2 to say it.

Pete has only said "Good Morning" once so far as well. He said it after waking up from a nap though, not when I say it to him in the morning, lol!

Pete really likes that TV show, Criminal Minds. They said goodnight on there while he was watching it, and that seemed to be why he said it. So long as he doesn't start screaming like the victims, as he really likes those parts. When people scream and get killed on that show, he laughs.

Awww! How awesome! Go Pete!

I have discovered that Kazi really loves for me to call him 'buddy' as in "Hey, buddy!" He said it to me one day in the sweetest voice and I found that when I called him 'buddy' he'd get all pleased looking and ruffle his feathers on his head a bit. He just loves it. I don't know if it was ever his name or if he just likes hearing/saying it, but it's really cute.

Amazons seem to really like nicknames and compliments. Pete loves being called pretty boy, good boy and big, strong amazon boy, lol! I've also been calling them all boo boo after watching an old episode of Laverne and Shirley and remembering Shirley's stuffed cat, Boo Boo Kitty.

That's adorable! Yoshi still says hello in response to goodbye... not sure he quite gets the concept yet ;)

Currently bird less.
FeeBee has definitely been talking more and more since I got him in January. I try to make a big deal of it every time he says anything and give him lots of attention even if I'm in the middle of something. It seems to be working.

That's great Pete has picked up more words with you too! You're right, it makes you wonder if anyone actually encouraged talking in their last homes? I always figured that if a bird will say at least one word, you should be able to train them to say it on cue. Adding more is a bit harder but they obviously have proven they can talk so you just have to figure out how to get more out of them.

Great job Pete!

Good job, Pete! Tico sounds like he's saying "bye-bye" whenever I put on shoes or a jacket or something that indicates I'm going out the door. Jasper has been just making his beeps and these odd chuckling noises. He does the chuckling alot when I'm cleaning his cage. I did manage to get a short video of him but not the big chuckling like he was doing earlier. I thought it uploaded..argh..I don't like the new youtube.

Well, he said it again, but in the middle of the afternoon. I believe he thinks it's a greeting like hi and hello. First he said, "Hello!" and I said, "Hello!" back. Then he said, "Good night!" and I said, "Right now it's good afternoon!" I'm sure he will figure it out.

Lene, I know how you are feeling about Shrek. Pete has now learned, "Whatca doin?" which my Blue Crown also said to me all day. And Merlin has learned "Pretty bird" the same way Bri said it, trilling it out like music. So I'm kind of turning my 2 new adoptees into birds that say what I miss with Bri.

Very nice!

Guava is only now starting to mumble "Good morning." It's very cute. I made a habit to say, Good morning, Guava," before uncovering her cage every morning, and to say, "Good night, Guava," when covering her cage at night. It's just adorable hearing this raspy, little voice coming from a covered cage say "Good morning" as you're waking up, lol.
