Hi guys! So I haven't pushes kiwi to step up on me yet. Yesterday she flew at me again and I picked her up off the ground with her stick. Today she is out of the cage, standing on the door calmly, but she is leaning towards me like she is going to fly at me again. Is the how a bird acts when it really wants to step up? There is no eye pinning or anything. And as I walk by she picks up one foot an leans forward like she is going to fly at me.

Someone help me translate this!

Pick me up pick me up. Pleeeeeeeease pick me up! Thats what it sounds like to me. You can see if she will step up onto her perch and take her to a play stand or perch near you

When she is like this, she uses the perch as a boost and flys into me!!! Should I try to get her to step up on my arm? I'm not sure!!!

If you do, dont be afraid. Ive heard of people wrapping their arm in a towel. Watch her behavior, try giving her some treats and see what she does.

My boyfriend wrapped his arm n a towel, and on a different day wore an oven mitt, and she bit several times before cooling off. It makes me wonder if she is just a bitey bird right now or if he was scared of the oven mitt etc. Makes me want to try without anything, but I'm a chicken **** right now.

She's begging you to pick her up! She really wants to be with you. Oblige her! You can pretty much be assured if her tail isn't flaring and her eyes aren't flashing you can stick your hand in front of her and have her step up without getting bitten. Amazons are very plain and clear in their body language. There are times I won't get my hands near Kazi, but then hours later he can be all snuggled against my neck making his happy little 'unh' noises. I've just had to learn to read him. You'll learn to read Kiwi, and this sounds like a definite 'please pick me up!' signal. If I were in the rescue and an amazon behaved like that in front of me I'd pick them up immediately without hesitation. Go for it!
