So, I was browising the bird section of the classifieds (oodle.com) because I have nothing better to do at work (lies!) And I saw something that made me go :(

There is this poor red-lored Amazon at the Humane Society here. I immediatly picked up my phone to call about it, but it's on hold due to the siezer case pending (or something to that nature.)

I'm going to try again next week and see if they took the bird off hold, but I may contact the shelter manager to see if I can set something up. The poor thing is 22 years old and does not need to be sitting in a cage in a shelter. :( They said they can't foster it out until the hold is off, which I understand, legal red tape.
:green1:

is it me, or does that beak look overgrown?

Aw, she looks like a dear! Her beak looks like it could use a good trim though. I just love red loreds, I had never even seen one in person until we got our pair but I'm amazed at how laid back they are! Our two lived in a basement with almost twenty other large birds and were always locked in there cage. It was dimly lit, extremely loud and dirty. They adjusted so well to the move, they only yell about twice a day or if we have people over(they like to show off :p) and I honestly don't think I've closed the door on their cage for close to a month now, they just hang out on top all day and go inside whenever they want :)

So, mini update (because I couldn't let the topic go.)

I called animal control to track down more information, the lady that answered the phone was actually very helpful.

The bird is from a lady that has had her for 27 years and was taken in a siezure, due to living conditions of the house and animals at the house. The bird's beak is over grown which is the only thing they could find wrong with it (no idea what they were feeding it, or what the cage is like.)

Anyways, they are giving the lady some time to find a relative that will take her animals. I gave them my information so they could pass it on, as someone who could foster the bird while the Lady got her life in order. They said she's a little mentally unstable, so I'm going to be careful how I approach this.. But we'll see. Maybe she'll get someone she knows to take her animals for now.

I hope so too. At 22/27 (getting conflicting information on that score) it deserves a very nice 20-30 more years at the least.

Will do. They are going to talk to owner tomorrow about it and see if she wants my information or not. Hopefully I hear something. If not, I guess she didn't go for it.

She is beautiful. I hope the lady decides that maybe the bird may be better off with a new owner! I hope the shelter tells her you have experience and were very interested. I am in the same position now - see latest post! There is a BFA sitting at an animal shelter right now after someone found it on their lawn! I guess both of us are just playing the waiting game...

I saw the BFA! I hope it finds it's family, but if not I am sure you'll give it an awesome home.

I wouldn't mind if the owner eventually gets the bird back, providing she can care for it. She's had her for 20+ years. My issue comes down to neglect, which seems to be the case with a look at the beak. But if she gets her life in order, and edcuates herself a bit on the care of her bird.. I would be more than happy to foster her for a little while.. I'll even give her the toys and some food to get her started. I just hate the thought of her sitting at the shelter, or someone relative's house who doesn't know how to take care of it.
