i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
that seems like a very good price for a blue front! My amazon is a rescue, she is a lilac crown, she was 15 when I rescued her. She was in HORRIBLE condition, never vetted and they wanted $450 for her. I didn't end up paying all of that for her because the vet I took her to over the "trial weekend" ended up calling the so-call rescue and told them what I was looking at in vet bills and to not charge any more than the $100 non refundable that I already gave them to allow me to take her to the vet. Sorry such a long story but I always feel like venting about the horrible place I got her from. I think that Blue fronts around here are about $800-$900. Congrats on your new baby!

I'm sorry to hear your lilic crown had such a horrid start in life but I'm glad she is with someone who loves her to bits now and your right £500 is a good price for a blue front as some of the ones I have seen sold for went for £750 to 800

Well we paid $1,300 for our YNA who will be coming home in 2 weeks or so. I know that sounds expensive but they are hard to find here. But if you think about it look at their lifespan so really its not that bad. We could have gotten some other species cheaper but we feel in love with this one. We have gotten our other 2 birds from the same place and they have the best birds in our area. Can't wait to get him/her home!

The only amazons I've paid for was my original pair. My others have been their babies that I kept. Ellie was $400 and Oscar was $600. Generally I sell the babies for in the $800 range which is supposedly a good price. Most other breeders around here say they sell their yellow napes for $1000, although I'm not sure how often they actually get that price vs. letting themselves being talked down to make the sale. I've never been able to sell one at premium prices like that.

There cheaper than a macaw and they can talk alot better and really $5.500 that's about £4.450 in UK money I highly doubt anyone would pay that for a amazon unless they were really dumb ;) lol

I would love to buy a zon but I cant afford to buy one. They cost about $5,500. Last time I checked. :p

Ahh, the downside of living in Australia or New Zealand. All us Americans and Europeans look at you guys with envey that you have so many wild parrots to watch all day and that cockatoos are so cheap there. That is until we hear the prices you have to pay for what most people think are plain green south american birds around here. Your amazons and macaws fetch outrageous prices over there.

I did see a hybrid macaw for $6,000. Macaws are very rare here. :p

Greater Sulfur Cockatoo's are about $800. They are the most common cockatoo along with the Galah. I saw some M2's for $7,500. I also saw a black cockatoo for $18,000. =o

We don't really have wild parrots here in NZ. I guess we have the Kea and Kakapo but you don't really get to see them. You can see the Kea I guess and boy they cheeky. Though you will have to go certain areas to see them.

Yellow crowned zons are just over the $2000 mark now and macaws have come down too. The blue and golds are about 5000 and hahns just over 1000. Still an awful lot!! Not as bad as it was though.

As you said though the plus side is most cockatoo species are cheap.

Lol I had to give my head a shake after banging it off the wall when I seen some of the prices you pay for your birds but there again I'm not really shocked considered Australia and new Zealand are differant to the UK and USA

In Central Florida, reputable breeders charge about $850.00-$1000.00 for Blue Fronts. But you can get them much cheaper from backyard breeders like around $500.00. Now, if you know how to hand feed, you can get them cheaper than that.
