I adopted a conure and a Red Lored Amazon within a month of each other and was advised to put a fuzzy little "tent" inside my conures cage. He loves it and snuggles inside it when he's ready to sleep! Nothing was mentioned about a special sleeping area for my Amazon - he's got great branches and ropes to perch on - but it all looks so uncomfortable compared to the tent. I haven't been able to find any information about preferred sleeping positions for Amazons. Has anyone here tried offering their Zon an alternative to a perch at night? Thanks!

For all the years he was with me, my YCA George always slept on the highest perch in the cage, in the back left corner of the cage-- whether he was in his normal large cage or his smaller travel cage. For most of those years, it was a natural wood perch, but later was changed to a braided fabric perch (Booda Comfy-Perch), which George liked better. Other than that, he had no special sleeping arrangements.

I bought Kazi one of those snuggle huts when he first came here. He wanted exactly nothing to do with it. He has two perches in his cage, a pedi perch and a thermo perch and he prefers to sleep on one, or both, of them. Well, I mean, he has lots of perches, but those are the two he prefers to sleep on. I've tried offering other, more comfortable alternatives, but he apparently likes the status quo!

Casper a blue fronted Amazon
We have just recently bought Casper a snuggle cloth thingy because he always slept next to a hanging toy and we thought he might appreciate it. He now sleeps at the other end of the perch, whether through his natural contrariness or because the weather is quite warm at the moment only time will tell.
He does enjoy climbing around the outside of the cage and trying to undo the ties on it during the day though.

I also think we tend to put our own values onto our birds... Just because we think it looks more comfortable, doesn't mean the bird thinks so as well...

Casper is in his cage in the garden this afternoon as it is has brightened up a bit. However there is quite a blustery wind so he has cuddled up to the shelter of his cosy. :)
He and Margaret are currently having an argument about the wisdom of him chewing the tie ribbons for the cosy.

My amazons just leap on their perch. I'm not sure providing a tent would be such a good idea for an amazon as they could consider it a nest and start to aggressively defend it. Usually its best not to start down that road. More than likely an amazon would just ignore it or destroy it for fun.
