Ok as some of you know we do have a gang in our house howver I want ONE more. Yes I swear just ONE. I have been wanitng a YNA for years. I have seen and read so many great stories about them and their antics. Just a few questions..
Do they get along with other birds?
Is the YNA the best amazon talker?
What is it when amazon owners talk about them being nippy and hormonal?

Thanks in dv!!!

Do they get along with other birds?

I am not sure, I know that there are zon's that get along quite well in situations where other birds are present. I personally haven't heard horror stories about 'zons not fitting in, but I am sure they are out there. The question then becomes, was it because of the bird itself (how well was the bird socialized when it was younger) or because of something the owner wasn't doing correctly.

Is the YNA the best amazon talker?
Though there is no guarantee that any parrots will talk, amazons and greys are known as the most prolific talkers in the parrot world ... so, I will say yeah, any amazon has the potential to be a great talker.

What is it when amazon owners talk about them being nippy and hormonal?

Think about this way: the worst case of PMS ever and you have only one way to express yourself, the can opener attached to your face. Though each 'zon will handle hormonal season differently I have heard so many horror stories about them ... but then there are 'zons like BirdMan's Sally Bird who refuse to eat and get super clingy (ask Birdman660 for the specifics, I just mention this because of the gamut of behaviors that can occur)

Yes Amazon's can get nippy and hormonal..but one of the reason's that I love them so much is that you are always WARNED!!!

Their feathers fluff, eyes pin like crazy, and tail feathers fan. Their body language is like a huge sign saying 'Stay Away! I'm not in the mood!'. So if you pay attention to stuff like that (and trust me, it's impossible not to notice when a 'zon is cranky) then you should be fine.

I've also been told that Amazon's can get very loud during their nippy, hormonal time (just ask Minzer about Iggy). Fortunately, mine aren't like that. I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

Iggy- YCA
While I normally agree that Amazons give you warning, when Iggy hit sexual maturity, the warning signs were often absent (and I was very familiar with them)...He would calmly step up onto my finger, act content, then nail my hand and draw blood with absolutely no warning...And he was a perfect bird up until his first seasonal aggression...Then once the hormones passed (which wasn't until June) the screaming was non-stop...no matter what I did. I'm not saying these are horrible birds, but I am saying that anyone getting one REALLY needs to know what these birds are capable of...It's a horrible thing to have to rehome your baby when you run out of options.

Nice to see you around Minzer, I know you can give great insight with having Iggy. I have a Mealy Amazon and while she isn't nippy, she also cannot say anything (not that I care), she does however scream (not quite as much as Iggy did). Her screaming is almost as loud as a Macaw or Too. Just prepare that you can put up with that if it happens.
