MC periodically will act like he's gagging. This isn't a daily or even a weekly occurrence. It's just random.
He did it a few times when he was going down the side of a long metal bell toy that he has on his play stand about a week or two ago. I thought maybe he just "liked" the toy. (I read these forums too much).
Tonight he did it on his perch after I put him back for bedtime. He hacks, and hacks, but nothing comes up. Sometimes he will tilt his head and look at me funny - his neck looks kind of thick and puffed up with his feathers. Or he will hold onto a toy in his cage with one foot and lean over with his beak being below the perch.
Do I need to call the vet about this? It's just odd and I really don't know what can be triggering the gag reflex in him. He had some treats tonight - cheerios and pumpkin seeds - just before I put him back in the cage.
