Is there a particular harness or device that is best used with the Amazon parrot in order to take him outside? I've been wanting to do this, and I don't care to clip his wings. Suggestions?
This was recently discussed in another thread, but to reiterate what I said there DO NOT GET THE FEATHER TETHER!
Lots of fans of the aviator here, I have no experience with it (yet). But the feather tether is NOT a suitable substitute. I am rarely so vocally critical of a product but the feather tether is horribly uncomfortable for the bird and for the owner trying to put it on them. It borders on dangerous - or possibly crosses the border.
I look forward to trying the aviator this summer. It has to be better than the tether.
Although I've never had the Feather Tether, I've heard it's a b*tch to get on them and just check out Tracy's horror story...ugh...makes me shudder.
Here's a pic. of Sisqo in his
It was a tad big on him in the summer b/c he had lost a lot of weight from an illness, so it's a little disheveled, but he has gained it back and it fits him well now.
On the Aviator, the only hardware is the adjuster that you see right in front, on the part that goes around his stomach. This part that goes around his stomach actually moves, so if your bird does take off flying, the part around the stomach moves with him and gently guides him back to you, so there is no jerking. Also, the end of the leash is elastic, so it doesn't 'snap' your bird when he gets to the end.
