Lilac crowned pair and two chicks
My two Lilac crown chicks are about a month old and doing great. After weaning, I will be keeping one and the other has a good home lined up. My question is how to choose which goes where?

I plan to get them sexed - are there any rules of thumb about personality differences between the genders? Does birth order make a difference?

I like them both and would be contented with either I'm sure. But is there any way to choose other than to flip a coin?:green1:

I don't think personality and that comes in to it but in this case I'll ask has does one of the chicks prefer to be with you more than the other if so that chick has choosen you and that's the one I would keep they are both cute that's for sure :D but I surgest letting the bird pick you rather than you picking it :)

After they fledge and as they start to wean their personalities will become apparent. They all have unique personalities, you'll see.

hmmm, not quite as bad as asking which of your children you would choose to save in a sinking ship, I would go with Paul and say keep the one that seems to bond with you. Don't ask what to do if they both do though! :D

I was just looking up lilac crowned amazons yesterday. They sound like beautiful, wonderful birds. So you can keep one and give the other to me. :D

Wait until they have weaned. If you still can't decide at that point, let whoever buys the one baby decide and you keep the other. I have noticed that in larger clutches, often the younger one is more bird oriented and only really focuses on people when their siblings are gone. However, if only two babies I doubt it would make much difference. I have a clutch of two nape babies and the younger is more people focused.

I generally prefer the females, although I haven't heard of much personality difference in lilac crowns. I've kept one of my own females because she was pure sweetness. I've kept one of my males because he was a rough and tumble boy and I worried about his future and the ability of most novice pet owners to handle him and maintain a civil relationship.
