OK, it is only week 3 with Queequeg, the older BFA rescue. I am now able to have her step up onto a dowel (as long as she sees a nutriberry in front of her eyes) and move her across the room to a different perch. I feed her twice a day, hide treats in foraging toys so she won't get bored, mist her, change her water, clean her cage every day... And she puts up with me. If I have a nutriberry. Or, maybe, if she is full, she'll listen to me tell a story. But overall, she tolerates me as her food delivery mechanism. On the other hand, I think she might actually like my 13-year old son. I do, too, so I'm not surprised... just a little envious.

Could be his voice we have to act like child when talking to parrots like if we talk to a baby kids have less deeper voice then adults do. Have you ever thought of clicker training? U found her soft spot(nutro berry) now train with that just a thought

LOL. Believe it or not, "I do all the work, and she still loves my XYZ best", is heard all too often in the parrot world.

Try not to take it personally. 3 weeks is still VERY very soon.

Most importantly: Don't give up. She may surprise you when you least expect it.

Perhaps that's a clue. Perhaps she feels no pressure, no expectations from your son and therefore she took to him sooner? Just an idea.

Don't feel bad. I got my grey timmy as a chick, hand fed him, all the fixings to boot...He liked my Mother-in-law best. My MIL would push him away using a notebook. He just looked at her with adoring eyes and me he'd bite.

It's been 9 months since I got my 15 yr. old Blue Fronted Amazon and he totally picked my 8 yr. old son as his favorite. Probably because my son is scared to try to touch or hold him. All he does is talk to him from about 4 feet away and the bird just loves him. My son can put his hands in the cage, rattle and shake his toys, change his food and water bowls and the bird just sits there looking at him with adoring eyes. Me on the other hand, is the opposite story. I go near his cage in the morning to change his food or water bowls and he lunges at me (actually strikes against the bars). He will stick his head out the little doors that swing open to change the bowls and try to get me. Sigh! My only hope is that once my son gets older and his voice starts to change, maybe he will change his mind about him. Not likely though. I feel your frustration.
