I have been waiting on the large cage promised to me when I rescued my BFA, but it doesn't seem to be coming any time soon. The cage Queequeg is in is woefully small--maybe twenty inches wide and not as deep. That being said, the cage door is always open, so she spends most of her time free on top or on a nearby java tree stand. (One wing is clipped, so she can't fly at all.)

Here is my question: I have two budgies in a much larger flight cage. In fact, Queequeg has climbed into their cage on two occasions and hung out with them. Their cage has thinner wire which is probably harder for her to hold on to, but... what do you think about my having the birds trade cages? I know it isn't ideal, AND I'm not sure how important it is, given the fact that Queegy only goes into her cage to retreat for quiet time. And the budgies, not tame, do appreciate their space... [Sigh.] I wish Queegy's former temporary holder would just give me the big cage!:green:

If Queequeg is out most of the I think it is OK. It is dagerous if a perrot have only one wing clippet, please fix the other wing as well

Note: she has been with my three weeks. The vet who saw her just after I got her said I should just let her be for a while--clipping the other wing might be too stressful right away.

I wouldn't stress over her cage, she doesn't. hens seem to like smaller cages anyway. They also adapt to new cages fairly easy. I swap bird's cages around often. Back in the "old days" we used to only clip one wing, it will stop birds from flying, but not really safe if they do startle. If you can put her in a travel cage to take to the vet, i'd let the vet even up her wings, it's the vet she'll hate not you.If having her flighted is ever a goal, you need to fix her wings so that if she does try to fly, she'll aleast have some control. If only one wing is clipped she'll never try to fly. In all honesty i doubt she'll ever fly if she's been that way for very long. But you won't know until you try.

I agree, even up the wings. Maybe not immediately, but when you can.

I also agree, try not to stress about the cage, you'll upgrade it when you can. After all, it's only temporary!

As for clipping yourself, well, I think that depends on the bird. I use a dremel on my mitred conure's beak and I can't get him to hate me! In fact, he tends to be sweeter to me after using the dremel on him! I'm not saying I want him to hate me, but it'd be nice if he was more independent. (we're working on it!)
