Hello all well we have another issue with our Oscar , we carnt get him to bath! He won't step up to anyone to take him to a shower and he goes nuts if you try to spray him its cruel to keep trying :( I've even tried to put diferent things in his cage with water in to see if he takes to any but he's such a nervous bird it just seams to scare him and he's stuck in one area of cage till I move it away .
He's starting to look a bit scruffy and I'm not sure what to try now any help ?
Oscar has chosen my daughter as his person but will still bite her if she doesn't keep her distance or moves to sudden .

can you take the cage outside and use the hose on a mist setting? you can stay pretty far away(so he doesnt realize it's you that is spraying him) and make sure it is above him so it is more like rain

I rescued my sisco and the woman i rescued him from used a squirt bottle as punishment. So i got a squirt bottle and put it on the MIST setting filled it up with warm water and sprayed above him while he was in cage. I would spray like 3 times while praising him and then i would give him a treat. It took a several times and he is still coming around and normally loves his bath. Occasionally he will not be in the mood and i will walk away and try again another time. So maybe a little positive reinforcement is while bathing is what he needs to remember its a good thing.

Here's a list I've put together to give you some ideas... and if you read vacuum and think I'm nuts... well, try it anyway! I don't know why, but some birds just love it if you turn it on and give them a source of water to bath in! (water dish or a shallow pan?). I've had people tell me they thought I was nuts, but they tried it anyway, and it worked like a charm! (doesn't work for my birds! they just scream at the darn thing!)

  • Try luke-warm water
  • Try cold water
  • Try ice-cold water
  • Try a spray bottle
  • Try a plant mister
  • Try in the sink with the water running or just some water in the bottom
  • Try in the sink with the sprayer
  • Try in the tub with some water in the bottom
  • Try a casserole dish or similar with some water
  • Try the dish with ice
  • Try the dish with foot toys
  • Try the dish with some leafy greens like endive or other types of lettuces that may create a "natural" bowl
  • Try the dish with a vacuum cleaner
  • Try in the shower with you - watching you having a blast getting wet!
  • Try dancing the bird into the shower with the water already going
  • Try spritzing yourself, and have fun doing it! Then spritz the bird
  • Try outside in an empty cage large enough to spread wings during a nice rain shower
  • Try outside in an empty cage using the hose with a mist/shower attachment

I agree by taking g the cage outside and misting from far away, I had to do this with my Nya when he was going thru his angry bird season. Better hurry winter is around the corner!
